FIA Institute Young Driver Excellence Academy
The FIA Institute Young Driver Excellence Academy is a programme founded by the FIA Institute for Motor Sport Safety and Sustainability to develop young driver talent worldwide. In its first year (2011) the Institute selected 12 drivers to take part in the programme. 19 drivers were shortlisted for a three-day selection event, which took place on 6–8 February 2011 in Melk, Austria. For 2012, the FIA shortlisted 30 young drivers, of whom 18 have been selected for the second year of the programme. In 2013, selection events were held across five continents with the winners from each event joining five chosen wildcards to form a ten driver academy. Melk
Melk (; older spelling: ) is a city of Austria, in the federal state of Lower Austria, next to the Wachau valley along the Danube. Melk has a population of 5,257 (as of 2012). It is best known as the site of a massive baroque Benedictine monastery named Melk Abbey. The town is first mentioned as in 831 in a donation of Louis the German; the name is from a Slavic word for 'border.' The area around Melk was given to Leopold I, Margrave of Austria, in the year 976 to serve as a buffer between the Magyars to east and Bavaria to the west. In 996 mention was first made of an area known as , which is the origin of the word (German for Austria). The bluff which holds the current monastery held a Babenberger castle until the site was given to Benedictine monks from nearby Lambach by Leopold II, in 1089. Egon Kaur
Egon Kaur (born 20 August 1987) is an Estonian rally driver. Career Egon started rallying in 2004, and made his World Rally Championship debut on the 2006 Wales Rally GB in a Renault Clio. His next WRC appearances came in the 2008 season in Sweden and Wales, behind the wheel of a Subaru Impreza WRX STi. He contested Wales Rally GB again at the end of 2009. After winning the Estonian Group N title in 2010, Egon contested the new WRC Academy class in 2011. He won the first three rounds of the season in Portugal, Sardinia and Finland. Kaur narrowly missed winning the 2011 FIA WRC Academy title to Craig Breen, with equal championship points but fewer fastest stage times. Andrea Caldarelli (born 14 February 1990 in Pescara) is an Italian racing driver. He has competed in such series as Eurocup Formula Renault 2.0, the Formula Three Euroseries, GP2 Asia, the GP3 Series and the Super Formula series. 2012 World Rally Championship Season
The 2012 World Rally Championship was the 40th season of the FIA World Rally Championship. The season consisted of thirteen rallies, beginning with Monte Carlo Rally on 17 January, and ending on 11 November with Rally Catalunya. Sébastien Loeb won the drivers' championship for the ninth time in his career, ahead of Finns Mikko Hirvonen and Jari-Matti Latvala. Citroën won the manufacturers' championship. Craig Breen
Craig Breen (born 2 February 1990) is an Irish rally driver, who competes part time in the Hyundai team in the WRC (World Rally Championship). He was the 2012 WRC Super 2000 world rally champion, scoring class wins in the Monte Carlo Rally, Wales Rally GB, Rally France and the Rally of Spain. Breen was also the WRC Academy champion in 2011, winning his first event at the 2011 Rallye Deutschland and sealing the championship with a win at Wales Rally GB. The Academy title going down to the last stage, with Breen and Estonian rally driver Egon Kaur ending the season, both on 111 points, Breen then won the title on count back of stage wins, 39 to 14. Richie Stanaway (born 24 November 1991) is a racing car driver from New Zealand. Career New Zealand Born in Tauranga, Stanaway was originally from a motocross background, before making the switch to speedway at the age of twelve.
