Football Club Pune City Women was an Indian women's football club based in Pune, Maharashtra, which last played in Indian Women's League, the top flight of Indian women's football. The club was established 2017, prior to the league's inaugural season. History In April 2016 it was announced by the All India Football Federation (AIFF) president, Praful Patel, that an Indian women's football league would begin in October 2016. Then, in July 2016, the AIFF hosted a workshop program for the proposed women's league at which Pune City, an Indian Super League side, were present. Finally, in October 2016, it was revealed that the Indian Women's League would kick off with a preliminary round on 17 October in which the top two teams during that round would qualify for a place in the league. Praful Patel
Praful Manoharbhai Patel (born 17 February 1957) is an Indian Nationalist Congress Party politician, industrialist and sports administrator. He was the president of India's association football governing body the All India Football Federation (AIFF) from 2009 till 2022 when the Committee of Administrators (CoA) took over the interim administration following the appointment by the Supreme Court. He became the Asian Football Confederation's vice president of the SAFF region at the AFC Congress held in Bahrain in 2015. The Indian Super League (ISL) is an Indian professional league for men's association football clubs. At the top of the Indian football league system, it is the country's primary football competition. Organised by the All India Football Federation (AIFF), and their commercial partners Football Sports Development Limited (FSDL), it is officially known as Hero Indian Super League for sponsorship ties with Hero MotoCorp. The league currently comprises 11 clubs. Each season of the tournament generally runs from October to March.
