FAMAS Award For Best Actress
The FAMAS Award for Best Actress is one of the FAMAS Awards given to people working in the motion picture industry by the Filipino Academy of Movie Arts and Sciences Award, which are voted on by Palanca Award-winning writers and movie columnists and writers within the industry. This is the Philippines' equivalent of the Hollywood's Academy Awards or the Oscars. Filipino Academy Of Movie Arts And Sciences Award
The Filipino Academy of Movie Arts and Sciences Awards (also known as the FAMAS Awards) are the annual honors given by the Filipino Academy of Movie Arts and Sciences (FAMAS), an organization composed of award-winning writers and movie columnists, for achievements in Philippine cinema for a calendar year. Members of the academy including avid movie viewers, fans or enthusiasts cast their votes on who should win the statuettes in the different categories they were nominated. Established in 1952, it is the oldest existing film industry award-giving body in the Philippines (as of 2013) and one of the oldest in Asia. The FAMAS Award, from 1952 to 1982, was the highest Filipino film award a filmmaker or artisan could receive in the local movie industry. Alice Bueñaflor Lake (November 23, 1924 – June 10, 2020), better known by her stage name Anita Linda, was a Filipino film actress. A romantic lead in her youth, she later gained critical acclaim for her portrayals in maternal or elderly roles. Emma Alegre (born 1933) is a Filipina retired actress, who worked from 1954 to 1957, mostly for LVN Pictures. She first appeared in '' Dalaginding''. Florence Danon Gayda (born Florence Lansang Danon; October 16, 1928), better known as Rosa Rosal, is a FAMAS award-winning Filipina film actress dubbed as the "original femme fatale of Philippine cinema." Gloria Sevilla (January 31, 1932 – April 16, 2022) was a Filipino film actress. Claire Dizon Strauss (1928 – June 15, 2020) professionally known as Lilia Dizon was a Filipina actress active in the 1940s and 1950s. Personal life She was the only daughter of Regina Dizon, a Filipino, and Abraham "Abe" Strauss, an American of German Jewish descent. At the age of 15, she and her mother relocated to Manila from Baguio following the Second World War after her father left for America and then, she started performing in the theater under the name "Carol Strauss". She was the wife of LVN Pictures actor Gil de León, with whom she had three children who would each eventually become actors as well: Pinky de Leon, Christopher de Leon and Melissa de Leon. She had a second husband, Antonio V. Abad with whom she had two daughters Toni Abad and Cori Abad. She retired from showbiz during the 1980s.
