F. William Rane
F. William "John" Rane was an American football coach. He served as the second head football coach at West Virginia University in Morgantown, West Virginia and he held that position for two seasons, from 1893 until 1894. His coaching record at West Virginia was 4–3. Rane was the head coach for West Virginia's first victory on October 7, 1893 but the team still suffered a sound loss to Washington & Jefferson Presidents football, Washington and Jefferson College by a score of 52 to 0, a bitter repeat of the previous year's loss to Washington and Jefferson by a score of 72 to 0. Washington & Jefferson Presidents Football
The Washington & Jefferson Presidents football team represents Washington & Jefferson College in collegiate level football. The team competes in NCAA Division III and is affiliated with the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC). Since its founding in 1890, the team has played their home games at College Field, which was remodeled and renamed Cameron Stadium in 2001. The 1894 college football season was the season of American football played among colleges and universities in the United States during the 1894–95 academic year. The 1894 Yale Bulldogs football team compiled a perfect 16–0 record, outscored opponents by a total of 485 to 13, and has been recognized as the national champion by the Billingsley Report, Helms Athletic Foundation, and National Championship Foundation, and as co-champion by Parke H.
