F.J. Schlink
Frederick J. Schlink (October 26, 1891 – January 15, 1995) was an American consumer rights activist. He co-wrote the book ''100,000,000 Guinea Pigs'' with Arthur Kallet, and co-founded the watchdog group ''Consumers' Research''. Life and activism Schlink was born in Peoria, Illinois, and graduated from the University of Illinois in 1912. In 1914, he acquired the degree of Mechanical Engineer, and worked at the United States Bureau of Standards until 1919. After work in quality control for Firestone Tire and Rubber Company, and for the Bell Telephone Laboratories, he became an assistant secretary for the non-profit American Standards Association. In 1927, Schlink was co-author, with Stuart Chase, of the bestseller, ''Your Money's Worth'', a warning about sales pressure and misleading advertising. Consumer protection is the practice of safeguarding buyers of goods and services, and the public, against unfair practices in the marketplace. The Historical Marker Database
The Historical Marker Database (HMdb.org) is an online database that documents locations of numerous historical markers in the United States as well as other countries. The database was launched in 2006 by computer programmer J. J. Prats. The HMdb served as the basis for the database for the online augmented reality game Ingress, which was then later repurposed for Pokémon Go. The HMdb was launched in 2006 with 179 markers that Prats had personally documented. By 2015 the site listed more than 74,000 markers. In addition to listing markers in the United States, the site also lists some markers from more than 40 other countries. By the start of 2018, the site documented more than 100,000 markers. The HMdb has been described as "crowdsourced", and according to the site's self-description, "Anyone can add new markers to the database and update existing marker pages with new photographs, links, information and commentary." Consumer Reports (CR), formerly Consumers Union (CU), is an American nonprofit consumer organization dedicated to independent product testing, investigative journalism, consumer-oriented research, public education, and consumer advocacy. Washington Township is a township in Warren County, New Jersey, United States. As of the 2010 United States Census, the township's population was 6,651, reflecting an increase of 403 (+6.5%) from the 6,248 counted in the 2000 Census, which had in turn increased by 881 (+16.4%) from the 5,367 counted in the 1990 Census. The township is one of six municipalities in New Jersey under the name Washington (one of which is a borough, five of which are townships). Washington Township, Warren County completely surrounds the borough of Washington.
