F.C. Matera
FC Matera, simply known as Matera, is an Italian football club society based in the town of Matera. They play in Serie D. The first city club, named U.S. Matera, was originally founded in 1933, and in the course of the history of the team it was founded a number of times. In September of 2022 they retook the name and logo of FC Matera. It is the only team in Lucania that has two national trophies in its list of prizes: The Jacinto trophy won in 1991, and the Coppa Italia won in 2010. They were also finalists in the Coppa Lega Pro in 2017. Seconda Categoria
The Seconda Categoria is a level of football in Italy. It is the 8th level (since 2014-15) in the Italian football league system. Each individual league winner within the Seconda Categoria level progresses to their closest regional league in the Prima Categoria level. Depending on each league's local rules, a number of teams each year are relegated from each league, to the 9th level of Italian football, the Terza Categoria. Giovanni di Lorenzo (; born 9 March 1959) is an Italian-German journalist. Editor-in-chief (since 2004) of German nationwide weekly newspaper '' Die Zeit'' and former editor-in-chief of Berlin's liberal daily newspaper ''Der Tagesspiegel'' (1999–2004; has since retained the position of publisher). Fernando Veneranda
Fernando Veneranda (23 May 1941 – 1 March 2007 in Porto San Giorgio) was an Italian football (soccer) player and manager. Playing career Veneranda, a forward, started his professional career for Fiorentina, where he played from 1960 to 1963. He never played a single Serie A match, but appeared in a Cup Winners' Cup match, as well as in the Coppa Italia and Mitropa Cup. He owns the record of being the Fiorentina players with the highest number of appearances without having ever played a league match. He then played for a number of Serie A, B and C clubs. Francesco Mancini (10 October 1968 – 30 March 2012) was an Italian football goalkeeper and coach, best known for his association with Foggia during the 1990s. Football career Early career Mancini started his career at hometown club Matera in 1985. He later played for Bisceglie in 1987. Luigi De Canio
Luigi De Canio (born 26 September 1957) is an Italian football manager and a former player who played as a full-back. Career Player De Canio, a full back, played mostly with Serie C1 and Serie C2 teams, his lone season in Serie B being 1979–80 with Matera, marking his debut in the division on 16 September 1979 against Genoa. He retired in 1989 with amateur team Pisticci, of which he successively became head coach.
