Ezra Wheeler
Ezra Wheeler (December 23, 1820 – September 19, 1871) was a U.S. Representative from Wisconsin. Born in Chenango County, New York, Wheeler received a liberal preparatory schooling and graduated from Union College, Schenectady, New York, in 1842. He moved to Berlin, Wisconsin, in 1849. He studied law and was admitted to the bar commencing practice in Berlin, Wisconsin. He served as member of the Wisconsin State Assembly in 1853. He served as judge of Green Lake County 1854–1862. Wheeler was elected as a Democrat to the Thirty-eighth Congress (March 4, 1863 – March 3, 1865) as the representative of Wisconsin's newly created 5th congressional district, defeating Edward L. Berlin, Wisconsin
Berlin is a city in Green Lake and Waushara counties in the U.S. state of Wisconsin. The population was 5,571 at the 2020 census. Of this, 5,435 were in Green Lake County, and only 89 were in Waushara County. The city is located mostly within the Town of Berlin in Green Lake County, with a small portion extending into the Town of Aurora in Waushara County. History In 1845, Nathan H. Strong (1813–1852) became the first resident of what is today Berlin. He was joined by Hugh G. Martin, Hiram Barnes, and William Dickey. Their settlement was known as Strong's Landing. In 1848 a post office was established. It was named Berlin after the capital of Prussia, now the capital of Germany. The first school house was built in 1850 and the first church in 1851. Wisconsin's 5th Congressional District
Wisconsin's 5th congressional district is a congressional district of the United States House of Representatives in Wisconsin, covering most of Milwaukee's northern and western suburbs. It presently covers all of Washington and Jefferson counties, most of Waukesha County, and portions of Dodge, Milwaukee and Walworth counties. It is currently represented by Republican Scott Fitzgerald. This was historically the most Republican district in Wisconsin, but as suburban areas have moved left, while rural and areas of industrial workers have moved right, the 7th and 8th have surpassed the 5th. However, this district remains solidly Republican for the time being. George W. Bush carried the district in 2004 with 63% of the vote. Schenectady () is a city in Schenectady County, New York, United States, of which it is the county seat. As of the 2020 census, the city's population of 67,047 made it the state's ninth-largest city by population. The city is in eastern New York, near the confluence of the Mohawk and Hudson rivers.
