Exile On Mainstream
''Exile on Mainstream'' is the first compilation album by American rock band Matchbox Twenty. The album was released in two parts: the first was an EP, featuring seven new songs that emerged from a 12-song recording session, produced by Steve Lillywhite. The other part consists of remastered versions of 11 of the band's biggest hits. Recording Matchbox Twenty had been on hiatus since 2005, when Adam Gaynor had left the band. In 2007, the remaining four group members reunited in Los Angeles to do a compilation album, and ended up recording seven new songs over the course of one session. For the first time, every member of the group worked on songwriting. All seven of the new songs on the album were credited to the members of Matchbox Twenty, a first for the group. Prior to this, the songs either were credited to Rob Thomas himself or co-written with various members of the band. Matchbox Twenty (also known as Matchbox 20 and MB20) is an American rock band formed in Orlando, Florida, in 1995. The group currently consists of Rob Thomas (lead vocals, guitar, keyboards), Brian Yale (bass guitar), Paul Doucette (drums, rhythm guitar, backing vocals), and Kyle Cook (lead guitar, vocals). ''Yourself or Someone Like You'' is the debut album by American rock band Matchbox 20. It was released on October 1, 1996, by Lava Records and Atlantic Records. Composition and release The album features a sound similar to traditional rock and post-grunge. The album features themes of adolescence, adultery, loneliness, domestic violence, psychological abuse, humiliation, depression, anger, and alcoholism. According to Rob Thomas, the album's title was originally to be ''Woodshed Diaries''. However, that changed when Thomas and Paul Doucette were at a woman's musical performance at Café Largo when the singer said "this song is for you, or someone like you". They loved the phrase so much that they insisted on changing the album's title, despite the fact that 3,500 copies of the album with the original title had already been made. ''Exile on Main St.'' is the 10th British and 12th American studio album by the English rock band the Rolling Stones, released on 12 May 1972 by Rolling Stones Records. Recording began in 1969 in England during sessions for ''Sticky Fingers'' and continued in mid-1971 at a rented villa in the South of France named Nellcôte while the band lived abroad as tax exiles. Adam Gaynor (born November 26, 1963) is an American musician. He is the former rhythm guitarist for the band Matchbox Twenty. Career Gaynor was born on November 26, 1963. He served as the rhythm guitarist and background vocalist for Matchbox 20 from 1995 and performed on their first three albums before he left the band in 2005 while they were on hiatus. After leaving the band, Gaynor co-founded the Matchbox 20 Foundation, which has worked with Make-A-Wish Foundation, Special Olympics, Rock Against Cancer and Best Buddies and Art of Elysium in Los Angeles.
