Exeter (CDP), New Hampshire
Exeter is a census-designated place (CDP) and the main village in the town of Exeter, Rockingham County, New Hampshire, United States. The population of the CDP was 10,109 at the 2020 census, out of 16,049 in the entire town. Geography The CDP is in the southeastern part of the town of Exeter, on both sides of the Exeter River where it flows into the tidal Squamscott River. The CDP is bordered to the northeast by the town of Stratham and to the east by New Hampshire Route 101, Dearborn Brook, and New Hampshire Route 88 (Holland Way and Hampton Falls Road). The southern edge of the CDP is an unnamed brook and the Exeter River. The western border of the CDP follows the Pan Am Railways line and the Little River to Colcord Pond. A census-designated place (CDP) is a concentration of population defined by the United States Census Bureau for statistical purposes only. CDPs have been used in each decennial census since 1980 as the counterparts of incorporated places, such as self-governing cities, towns, and villages, for the purposes of gathering and correlating statistical data. CDPs are populated areas that generally include one officially designated but currently unincorporated community, for which the CDP is named, plus surrounding inhabited countryside of varying dimensions and, occasionally, other, smaller unincorporated communities as well. CDPs include small rural communities, edge cities, colonias located along the Mexico–United States border, and unincorporated resort and retirement communities and their environs. Squamscott River
The Squamscott River is a tidal river in Rockingham County, southeastern New Hampshire, in the United States. It rises at Exeter, fed by the Exeter River. The Squamscott runs north between Newfields and Stratham to Great Bay, a tidal estuary, which is connected to the Piscataqua River, itself an estuary of the Atlantic Ocean. More specifically, after rising at the Great Bridge (a Works Progress Administration project that carries what is now New Hampshire Route 27) in downtown Exeter, the river passes the Phillips Exeter Academy boathouse, then tends north alongside the Swasey Parkway, through the haymarshes, passing by the town's water purification plant and then under Route 101, a major east–west arterial road in New Hampshire. Haverhill, Massachusetts
Haverhill ( ) is a city in Essex County, Massachusetts, United States. Haverhill is located 35 miles north of Boston on the New Hampshire border and about 17 miles from the Atlantic Ocean. The population was 67,787 at the 2020 United States Census. Located on the Merrimack River, Haverhill began as a farming community of Puritans, largely from Newbury Plantation. The land was officially purchased from the Pentuckets on November 15, 1642 (One year after incorporation) for three pounds, and ten shillings. Pentucket was renamed Haverhill (after the Ward family's hometown in England) and evolved into an important industrial center, beginning with sawmills and gristmills run by water power. New Hampshire Route 108 is a north–south state highway in Rockingham and Strafford counties in southeastern New Hampshire. The southern terminus of NH 108 is at the Massachusetts state line in Plaistow. The northern terminus is at an intersection with New Hampshire Route 125 and New Hampshire Route 202A in downtown Rochester. At its southern end, NH 108 connects to Massachusetts Route 108, a very short state route which continues south for to Massachusetts Route 110 in Haverhill. New Hampshire Route 27 (abbreviated NH 27) is a long east–west highway in southeastern New Hampshire. The western terminus of NH 27 is in Hooksett at U.S. Route 3 and New Hampshire Route 28 north of Manchester. The eastern terminus is in Hampton Beach at New Hampshire Route 1A, which runs along the New Hampshire coastline adjacent to the Atlantic Ocean. Little River (Exeter, New Hampshire)
The Little River is a stream largely in the town of Exeter in Rockingham County, New Hampshire, United States. It is a tributary of the Exeter River, part of the Great Bay/Piscataqua River watershed in the New Hampshire Seacoast region. The river should not be confused with the Little River of Brentwood and Kingston, another Exeter River tributary less than to the west. The Little River rises in the northeastern corner of Brentwood and flows east, quickly entering the town limits of Exeter. The river flows southeast through wetlands and past low hills, passing through Colcord Pond just west of the downtown part of Exeter.
