Executive Council Of Basel-Stadt
The Executive Council (german: Regierungsrat) is the executive of the Swiss canton of Basel-Stadt. The seven-member collegial body is elected by the people for a period of four years. The last election was held in October/November 2016. The presidency is directly elected by the people. The president of the Executive Council also serves as mayor for the city of Basel. The Federal Council is the executive of the Swiss federal government, and is included for purposes of comparison. The cantonal executives are collegial bodies, each with 5 or 7 members. They are generally called ' (Executive Council) in German-speaking cantons and ' (State Council) in French-speaking cantons. General structure Presidents of the executives The above mentioned collegial bodies are formally chaired by a president. However those presidents are primus inter pares, that is a ''first among equals'' in the council. Canton Of Basel-Stadt
Basel-Stadt or Basel-City (german: Kanton ; rm, Chantun Basilea-Citad; french: Canton de Bâle-Ville; it, Canton Basilea Città) is one of the 26 cantons forming the Swiss Confederation. It is composed of three municipalities with Basel as the capital. It is traditionally considered a " half-canton", the other half being Basel-Landschaft, its rural counterpart. Basel-Stadt is one of the northernmost and lowest cantons of Switzerland, and the smallest by area. The canton lies on both sides of the Rhine and is very densely populated. The largest municipality is Basel, followed by Riehen and Bettingen. The only canton sharing borders with Basel-Stadt is Basel-Landschaft to the south. To the north of Basel-Stadt are France and Germany, with the tripoint being in the middle of the Rhine. Collegiality
Collegiality is the relationship between colleagues. A colleague is a fellow member of the same profession. Colleagues are those explicitly united in a common purpose and respect each other's abilities to work toward that purpose. A colleague is an associate in a profession or in a civil or ecclesiastical office. In a narrower sense, members of the faculty of a university or college are each other's colleagues. Eva Herzog
Eva Herzog (born 25 December 1962) is a Swiss politician who has represented Basel-Stadt in the Council of States since 2019. She is a member of the Social Democratic Party (SP/PS). Education Between 1981 and 1988 she studied History, Economics and Spanish at the University in Basel and University of Santiago de Compostela and graduated with a MSc in 1988. She obtained a in History in 1994. Professional career Between 1995 and 2000 she held a leading position in the management of the Artspace in Basel. From 2001 until 2004 she was employed as a scientific collaborator at the University of Basel. Political career She was elected in to the Grand Council of Basel-Stadt in 2001 and in 2003 she assumed the presidency of the SP group in the Grand Council. She remained a member of the Grand Council until 2005, when she assumed as a member of the Executive Council of Basel-Stadt and onwards headed the finance department.
