Exception (computer Science)
In computing and computer programming, exception handling is the process of responding to the occurrence of ''exceptions'' – anomalous or exceptional conditions requiring special processing – during the execution of a program. In general, an exception breaks the normal flow of execution and executes a pre-registered ''exception handler''; the details of how this is done depend on whether it is a hardware or software exception and how the software exception is implemented. Exception handling, if provided, is facilitated by specialized programming language constructs, hardware mechanisms like interrupts, or operating system (OS) inter-process communication (IPC) facilities like signals. Some exceptions, especially hardware ones, may be handled so gracefully that execution can resume where it was interrupted. Definition The definition of an exception is based on the observation that each procedure has a precondition, a set of circumstances for which it will terminate "normall ...

State Of Exception
A state of exception (german: Ausnahmezustand) is a concept introduced in the 1920s by the German philosopher and jurist Carl Schmitt, similar to a state of emergency (martial law) but based in the sovereign's ability to transcend the rule of law in the name of the public good. Background The idea that a state may need to deal with unforeseen and critical problems is ancient; for instance, the Republican Roman concept of the dictatorship allowed a single person to take extraordinary measures, under strict controls. Renaissance thinkers such as Machiavelli and Jean Bodin also discussed the problem. However, while monarchy implies elements of unaccountability and extralegal powers, modern republican constitutions attempt to remove these factors, raising the question of how to deal with such emergencies. Before the twentieth century, constitutions did not define a state of emergency in great detail. For instance, the Constitution of the United States allows the suspension of habea ...

Exceptional Object
Many branches of mathematics study objects of a given type and prove a classification theorem. A common theme is that the classification results in a number of series of objects and a finite number of exceptions — often with desirable properties — that do not fit into any series. These are known as exceptional objects. In many cases, these exceptional objects play a further and important role in the subject. Furthermore, the exceptional objects in one branch of mathematics often relate to the exceptional objects in others. A related phenomenon is exceptional isomorphism, when two series are in general different, but agree for some small values. For example, spin groups in low dimensions are isomorphic to other classical Lie groups. Regular polytopes The prototypical examples of exceptional objects arise in the classification of regular polytopes: in two dimensions, there is a series of regular ''n''-gons for ''n'' ≥ 3. In every dimension above 2, one can find an ...

Exceptional Isomorphism
In mathematics, an exceptional isomorphism, also called an accidental isomorphism, is an isomorphism between members ''a''''i'' and ''b''''j'' of two families, usually infinite, of mathematical objects, that is not an example of a pattern of such isomorphisms.Because these series of objects are presented differently, they are not identical objects (do not have identical descriptions), but turn out to describe the same object, hence one refers to this as an isomorphism, not an equality (identity). These coincidences are at times considered a matter of trivia, but in other respects they can give rise to other phenomena, notably exceptional objects. In the following, coincidences are listed wherever they occur. Groups Finite simple groups The exceptional isomorphisms between the series of finite simple groups mostly involve projective special linear groups and alternating groups, and are: * \operatorname_2(4) \cong \operatorname_2(5) \cong A_5, the smallest non-abelian simple group ...

The Exceptions
The Exceptions were a Germany, German Demoscene, demo group formed in the 1980s. They were early pioneers writing demos for the Atari ST platform. History Usually known by the shortened form Tex they formed in the spring 1986 when Eric Simon and Udo Fischer were still teenagers. On obtaining an Atari ST they started exploring what they could do with this new hardware. After finding the initial Basic implementation limiting, they moved onto writing some simple graphical ''demonstration'' computer programs in assembly. After an early period of cracking games software and adding these demo screens to the loaders they eventually realised the coding was more fun. Their first breakthrough was a demo called the ''Little Color Demo'' released in the fall of 1987. It was however the release of the then large ''B.I.G Demo'' (Best In Galaxy) which propelled them to prominence. It featured a large collection of music ported from various Commodore 64 games by their recently joined musician ...
