David Floyd Ewin
Sir David Ernest Thomas Floyd Ewin (17 February 1911 – 11 November 2003) was a British administrator and Trustee of St Paul's Cathedral. Registered at birth as Ernest Thomas Floyd Ewin, he was the youngest of ten children of Frederick Philip Ewin and his wife Ellen Floyd. He later adopted the name of David. Ewin served as Registrar and Receiver of St Paul's from 1944 to 1978, when he formally retired, but continued to work for the cathedral as a volunteer. In 1948, in Totnes, Devon, Ewin married Marion Lewis. They had one son and one daughter. A freeman of London, in 1959 he served as Master of the Guild of Freemen of the City of London. In 1965, Ewin organized the state funeral of Winston Churchill. He was appointed an Officer of the Order of the British Empire later in the year and was knighted in the 1974 Birthday Honours. Career Donna Clarissa Ground was born on 4 June 1970, in Poplar, East London, England. Ewin was her mother's maiden name. Upon leaving college she joined the Yvonne Paul Management agency and first appeared on Page 3 of British newspaper '' The Sun'' at the age of 17. She found herself in great demand, establishing herself as one of the most popular Page 3 girls on the circuit during the late 1980s and early '90s. Paula Coghlan (born 14 October 1965) is an Australian wheelchair basketball player. She was born in the Melbourne suburb of Box Hill in Victoria. Coghlan was part of the Australia women's national wheelchair basketball team (Gliders) at four Paralympics: the 1992 Barcelona, 1996 Atlanta, 2000 Sydney, and 2004 Athens games. She was a member of the Gliders team that won silver medals in 2000 and 2004. Coghlan competed as Paula Lohman at the 1992 Games and at the 1996 Games she competed as Paula Ewen. She has two sons, James and Jacob. She was the domestic partner of wheelchair basketballer Sandy Blythe for eight years until his suicide in 2005. William Ewin
William Ewin (October 8, 1808 – November 25, 1886) was an American artisan, lawyer, civil servant and State Senator. Early life Ewin was born in County Leitrim, Ireland on October 8, 1808. He then emigrated with his parents to New York City in 1822. From 1830 to 1840 he worked in Philadelphia and Baltimore as a maker of mathematical instruments. Tucker County He married Martha Ann Dennis in 1835. In 1840 he moved to Western Ford, Randolph County, Virginia, which today is Saint George, Tucker County, West Virginia. Ewin studied law and lobbied the Virginia General Assembly for the formation of Tucker county, accomplished in 1856. Work Ewin served as Postmaster and County Circuit Clerk until barred from public service in 1861 because he, as did other county officials, supported Virginia's secession from the United States. William Howell Ewin
William Howell Ewin (1731?–1804), was a usurer. He was the son of Thomas Ewin, formerly a grocer, and latterly a brewer in partnership with one Sparks of St. Sepulchre's, Cambridge, by a daughter of a coal merchant named Howell of St. Clement's in the same town. Education and early career He was educated at St John's College, Cambridge, taking the degrees of B.A. 1753, M.A. 1756, and LL.D. 11 June 1766. He is said to have received a diploma of LL.D. from the University of Edinburgh in or about 1778, but his name does not occur in the ''Catalogue of Graduates'', 1858. On the death of his father he inherited his share of the brewing business and a handsome fortune, which he largely increased by private usury. Glen Ewin
George McEwin (29 January 1815 – 8 August 1885) was a gardener and orchardist in the early days of South Australia, remembered today as the founder of Glen Ewin jams and preserves. McEwin was born in Scotland, and worked in the gardens of the Duke of Buccleugh at Drumlanrig Castle in Scotland, then in the Liverpool nurseries of M. Skirving. He married Jessie Kennedy (12 July 1810 – 21 September 1884) in Liverpool in 1839. They emigrated to South Australia on the ''Delhi'', arriving in Adelaide on 20 December 1840. He worked as head gardener for George Stevenson, and planted what may have been South Australia's first vines at North Adelaide in 1837. Stevenson was private secretary to Governor Hindmarsh, arriving on ''HMS Buffalo'' at Holdfast Bay on 28 December 1836. He visited Sydney and collected a large number of fruit trees and vines, which he planted on Stevenson's extensive property between Melbourne and Finniss streets, and which thrived under his care.
