George Melford
George H. Melford (born George Henry Knauff, February 19, 1877 – April 25, 1961) was an American stage and film actor and director. Often taken for granted as a director today, the stalwart Melford's name by the 1920s was, like Cecil B. DeMille's, appearing in big bold letters above the title of his films. Early years Born in Rochester, New York, in 1877 (though older sources state 1888), he was the son of German immigrant Henrietta Knauff. Melford had four sisters: Mary Knauff (Mrs. Godfrey Willis Wainwright); Henrietta Knauff; Alice Irene Knauff (Mrs. Edmond Francois Bernoudy) — all of Los Angeles — and Mrs. Frederick Kells/Keils of Ottawa, Canada. James F. Neill (September 29, 1860 – March 16, 1931) was an American stage actor and film actor of the silent era. He appeared in more than 110 films between 1913 and 1930. Biography Graduated from the University of Georgia in 1882, James Neill immediately embarked on a theatrical career which spanned nearly fifty years with stage appearances in every state in the Union, the territories (including Hawaii), and the provinces of Canada, in addition to film appearances in the studios of many of the major early Hollywood producers. "The occasion of spring vacation during his senior year at the University of Georgia was marked by the first amateur theatrical appearance of young James F. Neill. Charles Stanton Ogle (June 5, 1865 – October 11, 1940) was an American stage and silent-film actor. He was the first actor to portray Frankenstein's monster in a motion picture in 1910 and played Long John Silver in ''Treasure Island'' in 1920. Biography Born in Steubenville, Ohio, Ogle is the son Joseph Ogle, was the son of Irish immigrants, and worked as a Methodist Minister. His mother, Anna C. Mast, was of German descent and used to work as a gold shop seller. Ogle attended the University of Illinois College of Law and practiced law for about two years while pursuing a Bachelor of Laws degree.
