Everything Ever Written
''Everything Ever Written'' is the eighth studio album by Scottish indie rock band Idlewild, released on 16 February 2015 on Empty Words Records. Produced by guitarist Rod Jones, the album was recorded after a lengthy hiatus, during which the future of the band was uncertain. The album is the first to feature keyboardist Luciano Rossi and guitarist and bassist Andrew Mitchell. Background In 2009, Idlewild released its crowd-funded sixth studio album, ''Post Electric Blues''. By the end of the following year, the band embarked upon an "indefinite hiatus" after touring commitments ceased. Vocalist Roddy Woomble noted, "My interest was kind of decreasing with what, latterly, we did with Idlewild, because it was very traddy rock-band, you know, rhythm player, lead player, bass, drums – I think we made some great records like that and had some great concerts, but I wasn't interested in doing that." Idlewild (band)
Idlewild are a Scottish rock band formed in Edinburgh in 1995. The band's line-up consists of Roddy Woomble (lead vocals), Rod Jones (guitar, backing vocals), Colin Newton (drums), Andrew Mitchell (bass), and Luciano Rossi (keyboards). To date, Idlewild have released nine full-length studio albums. Initially, Idlewild's sound was faster and more dissonant than many of their 1990s indie rock contemporaries. However, it developed over time from an edgy and angular sound (as heard in their early material—once described by the NME as "the sound of a flight of stairs falling down a flight of stairs") to a sweeping, melodic rock sound as displayed on ''The Remote Part'' and '' Warnings/Promises''. The Impossible Song & Other Songs
''The Impossible Song & Other Songs'' is the third solo album by folk musician and Idlewild vocalist Roddy Woomble, released on 21 March 2011 on Greenvoe Records. The album's artwork is by author and illustrator Mairi Hedderwick, noted for her series of children's books featuring Katie Morag. The album entered the UK album chart at #73. Background and recording In the spring of 2008, Woomble moved to the Isle of Mull with his wife, Ailidh Lennon. Woomble notes: "We moved to Mull for the space, for the environment, but it's actually been the people that have been so important. My wife has family there. At first I knew no one at all, but the songs I've written have definitely been shaped by the people I've met. Sometimes I think it's odd how these songs came together quite quickly, then I think, well maybe it's not been quick at all, maybe it's taken me 34 years to get here and I just didn't realise it." David James Eringa (born 30 July 1971 in Brentwood, Essex) is an English record producer, sound and mix engineer. Biography He has a career long association with the Manic Street Preachers, he was on tea making duties on their first single "Motown Junk". Prepared Piano
A prepared piano is a piano that has had its sounds temporarily altered by placing bolts, screws, mutes, rubber erasers, and/or other objects on or between the strings. Its invention is usually traced to John Cage's dance music for ''Bacchanale'' (c. 1938), created without room for a percussion orchestra. Cage has cited Henry Cowell as an inspiration for developing piano extended techniques, involving strings within a piano being manipulated instead of the keyboard. Typical of Cage's practice as summed up in the ''Sonatas and Interludes'' (1946–48) is that each key of the piano has its own characteristic timbre, and that the original pitch of the string will not necessarily be recognizable. Farfisa Organ
Farfisa (Fabbriche Riunite di Fisarmoniche) is a manufacturer of electronics based in Osimo, Italy, founded in 1946. The company manufactured a series of compact electronic organs in the 1960s and 1970s, including the Compact, FAST, Professional and VIP ranges, and later, a series of other keyboard instruments. They were used by a number of popular musicians including Sam the Sham, Pink Floyd, Sly Stone, Blondie, and the B-52s. The company was formed after three Italian accordion manufacturers combined to form a single company. They began to produce electronic instruments in the late 1950s, and combo organs were introduced in response to similar instruments such as the Vox Continental. The relatively inexpensive Italian labour allowed Farfisa to sell their products cheaper than the competition, which led to their commercial success. Jeff Tweedy
Jeffrey Scot Tweedy (born August 25, 1967) is an American musician, songwriter, author, and record producer best known as the singer and guitarist of the band Wilco. Tweedy, originally from Belleville, Illinois, started his music career in high school in his band The Plebes with Jay Farrar, which subsequently transitioned into the alternative country band Uncle Tupelo. Wilco
Wilco is an American alternative rock band based in Chicago, Illinois. The band was formed in 1994 by the remaining members of alternative country group Uncle Tupelo following singer Jay Farrar's departure. Wilco's lineup changed frequently during its first decade, with only singer Jeff Tweedy and bassist John Stirratt remaining from the original incarnation. Gareth Russell is a Scottish musician, best known as the former bass guitarist for the indie rock band Idlewild (band), Idlewild. Allan Stewart (musician)
Allan William Stewart (born 21 January 1977 in Coventry, England) is an English musician. He is the second guitarist in Idlewild, the bassist in Holy Mountain and guitarist for the band Desalvo. He grew up in Farnborough, Hampshire. Stewart joined Idlewild as a touring guitarist in 2000 and became a full member in 2003. He features on the Idlewild albums '' Warnings/Promises'', '' Make Another World'' and ''Post Electric Blues,'' of which, on the latter he is also pictured on the cover. The Birthday Suit is a Scottish indie rock band from Edinburgh, formed in 2011 by Idlewild guitarist Rod Jones. ''100 Broken Windows'' is the second studio album by Scottish Rock music, rock band Idlewild (band), Idlewild, released on 9 May 2000. While touring in support of their debut studio album ''Hope Is Important'' (1998), the band wrote and recorded its follow-up in stages. Sessions were done between May and November 1999 at a variety of studios: Associated Independent Recording, Air in London, Jacob's in Surrey, Rockfield Studios, Rockfield in Wales, and Electrical Audio, Chicago. Initial recording with Bob Weston resulted in unremarkable material, by which point they switched to working with producer Dave Eringa. Described as an indie punk album, ''100 Broken Windows'' has been compared to R.E.M. and Hüsker Dü.
