Everynight Fire Works
''Everynight Fire Works'' is the debut studio album by American rock band Hey Mercedes. Following the demise of Braid, most of the members formed Hey Mercedes, with guitarist Mark Dawursk joining in early 2000. The band released a self-titled EP through Polyvinyl Record Co., before signing to Vagrant Records at the end of the year. They recorded their debut with Burning Airlines member J. Robbins at Pachyderm Studios in Cannon Falls, Minnesota in April 2001. ''Everynight Fire Works'' is an alternative rock, emo, indie rock and pop punk record that drew comparisons to Burning Airlines, Jets to Brazil, and Shudder to Think. ''Everynight Fire Works'' was announced for release shortly after recording, but was delayed a few times because of distribution troubles or legal issues that Vagrant was having. Hey Mercedes was an alternative rock band from Milwaukee, Wisconsin and Chicago, Illinois, United States, formed after the dissolution of Braid by its former members Bob Nanna, Todd Bell, and Damon Atkinson. History Early years and ''Everynight Fire Works'' (1999–2002) In June 1999, Braid announced they would be breaking up, and played their last shows that August. While guitarist Chris Broach remained active in music focusing his attention on the Firebird Band, Braid's remaining former members spent some time at home. Chris Broach
Christopher Robert Broach (born September 5, 1976 in Madison, Wisconsin) is one of the guitarists/vocalists in the 1990s emo band Braid. Broach joined Braid in 1994, recording his guitar parts on the band's first 7-inch release a week later. Career While a member of Braid, Broach also played in The Firebird Suite, and continued playing in what became The Firebird Band after Braid split up. He played guitar for Life at Sea on the album ''Is there a signal coming through?'', and fronted the band L'Spaerow which put out one album on his own label, Lucid Records, which he founded in 2002. Broach, along with Chris Common of These Arms Are Snakes and former Hey Mercedes guitarist Mike Schumaker, were involved in a project entitled The Blakhiv. Smart Studios
Smart Studios was a recording studio located in Madison, Wisconsin. It was set up in 1983 by Butch Vig and Steve Marker to produce local bands. The studio produced bands such as Killdozer, The Smashing Pumpkins, L7, Tad, and Nirvana. After initial production and remix successes, the building became the focus of operations for Vig and Marker's own band, Garbage, who released their debut album in 1995. The studio survived various mishaps, including flooding, and in 2003, a backhoe crashing through the walls of the downstairs studio. On May 1, 2010, the studio closed its doors because of financial difficulties, although in September 2013, producer and musician Brian Liston re-opened the former Smart Studios facility as Clutch Sound. ''Frame & Canvas'' is the third studio album by American rock band Braid. It was released on April 7, 1998, through Polyvinyl Record Co. After the release of the band's second studio album, '' The Age of Octeen'' (1996), drummer Damon Atkinson replaced Roy Ewing due to him being unable to commit to touring. Recording sessions took place at Inner Ear Studios in December 1997, with J. Robbins helping with production during the sessions. The album is an emo and post-hardcore release, for which the lyrics were co-written by vocalist/guitarists Chris Broach and Bob Nanna, or solely wrote by Nanna. Preceded by a European tour with the Get Up Kids, ''Frame & Canvas'' was promoted by Braid with tours across the United States, Canada, Europe and Japan with Compound Red, Discount, and Burning Airlines. Hot Rod Circuit (HRC) is an American emo band from Auburn, Alabama, established in 1997. History Early years The band was originally known as ''Antidote'' under which they released the album ''Mr. Glenboski'', which won the group the award of ''Best Unsigned Band of 1998'' by Musician Magazine. The band subsequently moved to Connecticut and released ''If I Knew Now What I Knew Then'' under their present moniker. Hot Rod Circuit's first record, "If I Knew Now What I Knew Then" was released on September 21, 1999. The Anniversary is an American band formed in Lawrence, Kansas, in 1997 by Josh Berwanger, James David, Christian Jankowski, Adrianne Verhoeven and Justin Roelofs. The Anniversary was the solidification of a line-up that had been in flux for a year. After two years of playing shows across with the Midwest with bands that included The Get Up Kids, Braid and Superchunk, The Anniversary signed to Vagrant Records. Vagrant Records is an American record label based in California. It was founded in 1995 by Rich Egan and Jon Cohen. Alkaline Trio is an American punk rock band from Chicago, Illinois. Since 2001, the band has consisted of Matt Skiba (vocals, guitar), Dan Andriano (vocals, bass) and Derek Grant (drums, vocals). Founded in late 1996 by Skiba, bassist Rob Doran, and drummer Glenn Porter, Alkaline Trio released its debut single, "Sundials", in 1997. Matt Lunsford is the founder and co-owner of Polyvinyl Record Co., an American independent record label headquartered in Champaign-Urbana, Illinois. Early years In 1994, while attending high school in Danville, Illinois, Lunsford and his then-girlfriend (now wife) Darcie published a fanzine called ''Polyvinyl Press''. After releasing a pair of 7"s and ''Direction,'' a 20-track compilation album documenting the Midwestern D.I.Y. scene, ''Polyvinyl Press'' officially transitioned into Polyvinyl Record Co. in 1996. At this point, Lunsford decided to drop out of college (where he had been pursuing an engineering degree) to focus on the label full-time.
