"Every Little Step" is a 1989 single by American singer Bobby Brown, written by L.A. Reid and Kenneth "Babyface" Edmonds and released by MCA Records. Released as the fourth single on his second album ''Don't Be Cruel'' it reached number three on the ''Billboard'' Hot 100, number one on the Hot Black Singles chart, and number six on the UK Singles Chart in 1989. The song also appears on Brown's remix album '' Dance!...Ya Know It!''. The single garnered Brown's first career Grammy Award for Best Male R&B Vocal Performance at the 32nd Grammy Awards in 1990. Composition and production Around the time ''Don't Be Cruel'' was in production, Reid was dating singer Pebbles, who later became his wife. Robert Barisford Brown (born February 5, 1969) is an American singer, songwriter and dancer. Brown, alongside frequent collaborator Teddy Riley, is noted as one of the pioneers of new jack swing: a fusion of hip hop and R&B. Perri Arlette Reid (née McKissack; August 29, 1964), known professionally as the recording artist Pebbles, is an American singer-songwriter, businesswoman, record producer, and music executive. Hi-top fade is a haircut where hair on the sides is cut off or kept very short while hair on the top of the head is grown long. The hi-top was a trend symbolising the golden age of hip hop and urban contemporary music during the 1980s and the early 1990s. It was common among young black people between 1986 and 1993 and to a lesser extent in the mid–1990s (1994–1996). The hi-top fade is commonly called a crew cut, due to the great likeness of the two styles. In fact, the hi-top fade could qualify as a variation on the flattop. The running man is a street dance, consisting of "shuffling" and sliding steps, imitating a stationary runner. The dancer takes steps forward, then slides the foot placed in front backwards almost immediately, while moving their fists forwards and back horizontally in front of them.
