Its music was written by Karl Hoschna and its lyrics by Otto Harbach for their musical, ''Madame Sherry'', which opened on Broadway on August 30, 1910. The song was sung in the musical by Frances Demarest and John Reinhard. Popular recordings in 1910 were by Harry Macdonough and Lucy Isabelle Marsh, and by Henry Burr and Elise Stevenson. Marie Lloyd sang a parody of it in British music halls just before the World War I. ''The Jolson Story'' is a 1946 American musical biography film which purports to tell the life story of singer Al Jolson. It stars Larry Parks as Jolson, Evelyn Keyes as Julie Benson (approximating Jolson's wife, Ruby Keeler), William Demarest as his manager, Ludwig Donath and Tamara Shayne as his parents, and Scotty Beckett as the young Jolson. Richard Besoyan (July 2, 1924 – March 13, 1970) was a singer, actor, playwright, composer and director especially of operetta and musicals. He is best remembered for writing the successful satirical musical ''Little Mary Sunshine''. Life and career Born in Reedley, California to Amos and Mabel (Madie) Besoyan, on July 2, 1924. ''The Late George Apley'' is a 1937 novel by John Phillips Marquand. It is a satire of Boston Brahmin, Boston's upper class in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The title character is a Harvard-educated White Anglo-Saxon Protestant, WASP living on Beacon Hill, Boston, Massachusetts, Beacon Hill in downtown Boston. The book is an epistolary novel, made up mostly of letters to and from the title character.
