Avraham Even-Shoshan
Avraham Even-Shoshanrussian: Авраа́м Э́вен-Шоша́н, translit=Avraam Even-Shoshan (né Rozenshteyn;russian: Розенштейн 25 December 1906 – 8 August 1984) was a Belarusian-born Israeli Hebrew linguist and lexicographer, compiler of the Even-Shoshan dictionary, one of the foremost dictionaries of the Hebrew language. Biography Avraham Rozenshteyn was born in Minsk, in what was then the Russian Empire, on 25 December 1906. He attended the cheder run by his father, who later sent him to public school and yeshiva. Rosenstein managed to avoid the British restrictions on Jewish immigration to Mandatory Palestine and settled there in 1925, where he changed his name to Even-Shoshan, a translation of Rosenstein, and initially worked as a laborer. He studied at the College for Hebrew Teachers (now the David Yellin College of Education) in Jerusalem and the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. He worked as a teacher in Jerusalem until 1967. Maya Even (born 24 May 1961), is a Canadian-born, British-based, university lecturer, journalist and television presenter. Biography Born in Canada, and educated at McGill University, Montreal, and St Antony's College, University of Oxford where she first arrived in 1979 and completed a doctoral thesis entitled ''The Evolution of Political Television and its Influence on Election Campaigning in Britain.'' After a period as a university lecturer, Even began her television career at TV-am in 1987, first as a researcher in the political unit and then as a producer and reporter from 1989, mainly from Westminster. Nahshon Even-Chaim (born May 1971), aka Phoenix, was the first major computer hacker to be convicted in Australia. He was one of the most highly skilled members of a computer hacking group called The Realm, based in Melbourne, Australia, from the late 1980s until his arrest by the Australian Federal Police in early 1990. Uzi Even ( he, עוזי אבן, born 18 October 1940) is an Israeli professor emeritus of physical chemistry at Tel Aviv University and a former politician well known for being the first openly gay member of the Knesset (the Israeli Parliament). Biography Uzi Even was born in Haifa during the British Mandate era. He earned a BSc and MSc in physics at the Technion, and a PhD at Tel Aviv University. His specializations are spectroscopy of super cold molecules, molecular clusters and cluster impact chemistry, and the quantum properties of helium clusters. He then worked as a scientist at the Negev Nuclear Research Center near Dimona.
