Evansville Purple Aces Men's Soccer
The Evansville Purple Aces men's soccer team represents the University of Evansville in the Missouri Valley Conference (MVC) of NCAA Division I soccer. The Purple Aces play their home matches on Black Beauty Field at Arad McCutchan Stadium on the north end of the university's campus in Evansville, Indiana. The team is currently coached by Marshall Ray. History The program began in 1974, under head coach Bill Vieth. Since then, the Purple Aces have made the NCAA Division I Men's Soccer Tournament 11 times. 1985 Evansville first made the Final Four in 1985, under head coach Fred Schmalz. After going 21-1-2 in the regular season, the Purple Aces qualified for the NCAA tournament, a feat the program has accomplished twice up to this point. During the tournament, Evansville beat the likes of Indiana (3-0), and Penn State (1-0). It was UCLA who bested them in the Final Four, by a score of 3 to 1. Arad McCutchan Stadium
Arad McCutchan Stadium, located in Evansville, Indiana, is the home of the University of Evansville soccer teams. It was originally built for the football team, but the university discontinued football in 1997. It is named after Arad McCutchan, who was the basketball coach at the university for 31 years. Memphis 901 FC is an American professional soccer team based in Memphis, Tennessee. Founded in 2018, the team made its debut in the USL Championship in 2019. Stadium The club currently plays on the grounds of AutoZone Park, a baseball stadium which is also home of the Memphis Redbirds of the Pacific Coast League. Diego Gutiérrez (soccer, Born 1972)
Diego Gutiérrez (born November 3, 1972 in Bogotá, Colombia) is an American retired professional soccer player, who spent his career between Chicago Fire and Kansas City Wizards, both of Major League Soccer, and is currently a radio commentator for ESPN Deportes Kansas City. Born in Colombia, he played for the United States national team. Early life and education Born in Colombia, Gutiérrez was part of that country's youth teams. He came to the United States to attend the University of Evansville and Rockhurst University. He was a 1994 First Team NAIA All American at Rockhurst. Reno 1868 FC was an American professional soccer team based in Reno, Nevada. Founded in 2015, the team made its debut in the USL Championship in March 2017 and ceased operations after the 2020 season. History Previously, northern Nevada has had three other professional minor league soccer teams: Reno Rattlers, Northern Nevada Aces, and Nevada Wonders. Nevertheless, Reno now has a large youth soccer base and growing popularity of the sport. On September 16, 2015, USL announced that they would expand to Reno, Nevada starting in 2017. Mark Anthony Gonzalez (born September 9, 1994) is a Canadian association football, soccer player. Club career Gonzalez spent four years playing College soccer in the United States, college soccer at the University of Evansville between 2012 and 2015. While at college, Gonzalez appeared for Sigma FC in League 1 Ontario, and Premier Development League side TFC Academy. Cory Elenio (born August 14, 1986) is an American soccer player. Career College and amateur Elenio was born in Ann Arbor, Michigan. He attended the University of Evansville and tallied 18 goals and 19 assists in four years, becoming the 18th leading scorer in school history. Elenio was named to the NSCAA All-Midwest Region team and the All-Missouri Valley Conference first team in both 2006 and 2007. In 2005, Elenio also played for Fort Wayne Fever in the Premier Development League. Professional Elenio was Columbus Crew's second-round selection (20th overall) in the 2008 MLS Supplemental Draft. Alec Dufty (born March 11, 1987) is a former American soccer player and current coach. He is currently a goalkeeper coach with Sporting Kansas City in Major League Soccer. Career College and Amateur Dufty grew up in Raleigh, North Carolina, and played college soccer at Appalachian State University and the University of Evansville, where he was an All-Missouri Valley Conference selection in his final two years. During his college years Dufty also played with Raleigh Elite in the USL Premier Development League. The UNLV Rebels are the intercollegiate athletics teams that represent the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV). The Rebels compete in the NCAA Division I (Football Bowl Subdivision for college football) as a member of the Mountain West Conference. The school's colors are scarlet and gray. It was founded in 1958 for basketball in Paradise, Nevada. It did not have a nickname for Nevada Southern at the time from 1958 to 1968. Some of the Rebels teams use variations of the team name for their individual sport, such as the Runnin' Rebels for men's basketball and the Hustlin' Rebels for the baseball team. The New York Greeks was an American soccer club based in New York City that was a member of the American Soccer League (1933-1983), American Soccer League. The team began as the amateur Greek-Americans. The club played lower Premier Division of the German American Soccer League which was based in the New York metropolitan area. The team won the Premier Division championship in 1950/51 and was promoted to the upper Major "Big 12" Division for the following season. Following their last place finish in the 1953/54 season, the club was relegated. The team was again promoted to the upper division for the 1960/61 season.
