''Evans, Novak, Hunt & Shields'' is an interview/political discussion show on CNN hosted by Rowland Evans Rowland Evans Jr. (April 28, 1921 – March 23, 2001) was an American journalist. He was known best for his decades-long syndicated column and television partnership with Robert Novak, a partnership that endured, if only by way of a joint subsc ... and Robert Novak. The weekly program featured four rotating panelists, including Evans, Novak, Al Hunt and Mark Shields. It debuted on the network in 1982. Originally, the program was called ''Evans and Novak''. After Evans retired, he stopped appearing on the show regularly and was largely replaced by liberal columnists Shields and Hunt, who alternated weekly in co-hosting with Novak, who appeared every week. The addition of Shields and Hunt resulted in the change in title. Evans still appeared occasionally, however, until his 2001 death. The show was cancelled in November 2002. Robert Novak
Robert David Sanders Novak (February 26, 1931 – August 18, 2009) was an American syndicated columnist, journalist, television personality, author, and conservative political commentator. After working for two newspapers before serving in the U.S. Army during the Korean War, he became a reporter for the Associated Press and then for ''The Wall Street Journal''. He teamed up with Rowland Evans in 1963 to start ''Inside Report'', which became the longest running syndicated political column in U.S. history and ran in hundreds of papers. They also started the ''Evans-Novak Political Report'', a notable biweekly newsletter, in 1967. Novak and Evans played a significant role for CNN after the network's founding. Albert Reinold Hunt Jr. (born December 4, 1942) is an American journalist, formerly a columnist for Bloomberg View (from which he retired at the end of 2018), the editorial arm of Bloomberg News (which is a subsidiary of Bloomberg L.P.). Hunt hosted the Sunday morning talk show ''Political Capital'' on Bloomberg Television and was also a weekly panelist on CNN's ''Capital Gang'' and '' Evans, Novak, Hunt & Shields''. Personal life Hunt was born in Charlottesville, Virginia. He graduated from The Haverford School in Haverford, Pennsylvania, in 1960. He attended Wake Forest University, where he earned a bachelor's degree in political science in 1965 and worked for the Old Gold & Black. Mark Stephen Shields (May 25, 1937 – June 18, 2022) was an American political columnist, advisor, and commentator. He worked in leadership positions for many Democratic candidates' electoral campaigns. Shields provided weekly political analysis and commentary for the ''PBS NewsHour'' from 1988 to 2020. His on-screen counterpart from 2001 to 2020 was David Brooks of ''The New York Times''. Previous counterparts were the late William Safire, Paul Gigot of ''The Wall Street Journal'', and David Gergen.
