Evan White (baseball)
Evan McKee White (born April 26, 1996) is an American professional baseball first baseman for the Seattle Mariners of Major League Baseball (MLB). He played college baseball for the Kentucky Wildcats. Amateur career White attended Lincoln High School in Gahanna, Ohio and the University of Kentucky where he played college baseball for the Wildcats. As a freshman, White started all 52 games and hit .318/.369/.410 with two home runs and 28 runs batted in (RBI). As a sophomore in 2016, White started all 54 games, hitting .376/.419./.535 with five home runs and 40 RBI. After the season, he played for the United States collegiate national team. Professional career Considered one of the top prospects for the 2017 Major League Baseball draft, the Seattle Mariners selected White with the 17th overall selection. A first baseman, abbreviated 1B, is the player on a baseball or softball team who fields the area nearest first base, the first of four bases a baserunner must touch in succession to score a run. The first baseman is responsible for the majority of plays made at that base. In the numbering system used to record defensive plays, the first baseman is assigned the number 3. Also called first sacker or cornerman, the first baseman is ideally a tall player who throws left-handed and possesses good flexibility and quick reflexes. United States National Baseball Team
The United States national baseball team represents the United States in international-level baseball competitions. The team is currently ranked 5th in the world by the World Baseball Softball Confederation. Team USA won the Olympic baseball tournament in 2000, and the World Baseball Classic (WBC) in 2017. The United States was an inaugural member of the World Baseball Classic, making its debut in the first edition. In their first three appearances in the WBC, the best finish for the Americans was fourth place in 2009. In 2017, the team won the WBC title for the first time. Team USA qualified for the 2020 Summer Olympics by winning the eight-team Americas Qualifying Event in June 2021. The All-Star Futures Game is an annual baseball exhibition game hosted by Major League Baseball (MLB) in conjunction with the mid-summer MLB All-Star Game. A team of American League-affiliated prospects competes against a team of National League-affiliated prospects. The Arkansas Travelers, also known informally as The Travs, are a Minor League Baseball team based in North Little Rock, Arkansas. The Travelers are affiliated with the Seattle Mariners as members of the Texas League. The Tacoma Rainiers are a Minor League Baseball team of the Pacific Coast League (PCL) and the Triple-A affiliate of the Seattle Mariners. They are located in Tacoma, Washington, and play their home games at Cheney Stadium, which opened in 1960.
