Evan Dunfee
Evan Dunfee (born September 28, 1990) is a Canadian race walker and Olympian. An Olympic and World medallist, Dunfee first set the Canadian record in the 50 kilometres race walk (at 3:41:38) at the 2016 Summer Olympics, where he placed fourth. He went on to win bronze medals at the 2019 World Athletics Championships and the 2020 Summer Olympics, both of those the last time the 50 km was to be featured as an event. Career He competed for his national team in the 50K walk at the 2013 World Championships, finishing in under 4 hours at 3:59:28. He won a bronze medal with his team at the 2013 World University Games where two of the winning Russian race walkers, Denis Strelkov and Andrey Ruzavin have since been suspended for doping violations. The men's 20 kilometres walk competition of the athletics events at the 2015 Pan American Games took place on the 19 of July on a temporary circuit around the Ontario Place West Channel. The defending Pan American Games champion is Erick Barrondo of Guatemala. Walking on home soil, Evan Dunfee was frustrated by the slow pace 1 km into the race, so he decided to make what turned into a one-man breakaway for victory. 2013 World Championships In Athletics – Men's 50 Kilometres Walk
The men's 50 kilometres walk at the 2013 World Championships in Athletics was held at the Luzhniki Stadium and Moscow streets on 14 August. From the start on home soil, Russians Mikhail Ryzhov and Ivan Noskov took the lead, with Jared Tallent in tow. By 15K the three had broken away to a 12-second lead. Tallent began to fall back to lead a large chasing pack as the two men continued to set the pace. By the half way mark Grzegorz Sudol and Robert Heffernan, who had spotted the leaders 30 seconds earlier, joined world leader Yohann Diniz to form a 5-man pack at the front. By 35K roles had reversed, Heffernan was now leading the Russians, Diniz was exiting the back and Sudol was trying to hold on. Over the next 5K, Heffernan pushed the lead with Ryzhov, as Noskov and Sudol formed their own group now steadily losing ground. 50 Kilometres Race Walk
The 50 kilometre race walk was an Olympic athletics event that first appeared in 1932 and made its final Olympic appearance in 2021. The racewalking event is competed as a road race. Athletes must always keep in contact with the ground and the supporting leg must remain straight until the raised leg passes it. 50 kilometres is approximately 31 miles. The 50 kilometres race walk was dropped from the Olympic program after the 2020 Tokyo Games in 2021 and will be replaced by a mixed team race in order to achieve gender equality. Race Walker
Racewalking, or race walking, is a long-distance discipline within the sport of athletics. Although a foot race, it is different from running in that one foot must appear to be in contact with the ground at all times. Referee, Race judges carefully assess that this is maintained throughout the race. Typically held on either roads or running tracks, common distances range from up to 100 kilometres race walk, 100 kilometres (62.1 mi). There are two racewalking distances contested at the Summer Olympics: the 20 kilometres race walk (men and women) and 50 kilometres race walk (men only). Both are held as road events. 2013 Summer Universiade
The 2013 Summer Universiade, officially known as the XXVII Summer Universiade (russian: XXVII Летняя Универсиада), was held in the city of Kazan, Russia, the most northerly city ever to host a Summer Universiade. Over 10,400 university athletes from 162 countries participated in 13 mandatory and 14 optional sports, making the 2013 Universiade the biggest ever in the history of the event. The Universiade is an international multi-sport event, organized for university athletes by the International University Sports Federation (FISU). The name is a portmanteau of the words "University" and "Olympiad". The Universiade is referred to in English as the World University Games or World Student Games; however, this latter term can also refer to competitions for sub-University grades students.
