Eva Pilarová
Eva Pilarová, née Bojanovská (9 August 1939 – 14 March 2020) was a Czech jazz and pop music singer. Biography Pilarová was born in Brno. She started singing during her childhood, including classical music. She studied singing at the Janáček Academy of Arts in Brno. Her idols were Ella Fitzgerald and Louis Armstrong. In 1960, she became a member of the Semafor Theater in Prague where she sang alongside performers such as Jiří Suchý and Jiří Šlitr. In 1962 she left the theatre temporarily to sing in the Theater Rokoko, but in 1964 returned to Semafor. In the same year she also had a minor role in the film ''If a Thousand Clarinets'' (as a chorus-singer of the girl school). During her singing career she has had a large number of hits, including duets with Waldemar Matuška, Karel Gott and others. Intervision Song Contest
The Intervision Song Contest (ISC) was an international song contest for artists from countries of the former Soviet Union and members of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation. It was previously the " Eastern Bloc equivalent to the Eurovision Song Contest". Its organiser was Intervision, the network of Eastern Bloc television stations. The contest would usually take place in the Forest Opera in Sopot, Poland. The ISC was organised between 1977 and 1980. It replaced the Sopot International Song Festival (Sopot ISF) that had been held in Sopot since 1961. In 1981 the ISC/Sopot ISF was cancelled because of the rise of the independent trade union movement, Solidarity, which was judged by other Eastern bloc communist governments to be "counter-revolutionary". Hrob (german: Klostergrab) is a town in Teplice District in the Ústí nad Labem Region of the Czech Republic. It has about 2,000 inhabitants. Administrative parts The town part of Verneřice and villages of Křižanov and Mlýny are administrative parts of Hrob. Etymology The word ''hrob'' means "grave" in modern Czech, but this is just a coincidence. The original German name was''Grap'', later modified to ''Grab'' and transcribed into Czech as ''Hrob''. Josef Škvorecký (; September 27, 1924 – January 3, 2012) was a Czech-Canadian writer and publisher. He spent half of his life in Canada, publishing and supporting banned Czech literature during the communist era. Škvorecký was awarded the Neustadt International Prize for Literature in 1980. He and his wife were long-time supporters of Czech dissident writers before the fall of communism in that country. Škvorecký's fiction deals with several themes: the horrors of totalitarianism and repression, the expatriate experience, and the miracle of jazz.
