Eva Ekvall
Eva Mónica Anna Ekvall Johnson (March 15, 1983 – December 17, 2011) was a Venezuelan television news anchor, author, advocate in the fight against breast cancer, fashion model and former Miss Venezuela. After winning the competition, she had a brief career in television before being diagnosed with advanced breast cancer. She was married to John Fabio Bermudez; the couple had one child before Ekvall's death from the disease in 2011. Early life Ekvall was born in Caracas, Venezuela. She was raised in both the United States and Venezuela and was fluent in English and Spanish from childhood. Ekvall attended the Academia Washington of Caracas. Her father, Eric Ekvall, was an American of Swedish descent, who had lived in Venezuela since the early 1980s and worked as actor and political consultant. Miss Venezuela 2000 was the 47th Miss Venezuela pageant, was held in Caracas, Venezuela, on September 8, 2000, after weeks of events. The winner of the pageant was Eva Ekvall, Miss Apure. The pageant was broadcast live on Venevision from the Poliedro de Caracas in Caracas, Venezuela. Apure (state)
Apure State ( es, Estado Apure, ) is one of the 23 states of Venezuela. Its territory formed part of the provinces of Mérida, Maracaibo, and Barinas, in accordance with successive territorial ordinations pronounced by the colonial authorities. In 1824 the Department of Apure was created, under jurisdiction of Barinas, which laid the foundations for the current entity. In 1856 it separated from Barinas and for the first time Apure appeared as an independent province, which in 1864 acquired the status of state.
