Eurovision Dance Contest 2007
The Eurovision Dance Contest 2007 was the inaugural edition of the Eurovision Dance Contest, a dance competition co-production between the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) and host broadcaster BBC. The first ever pan-European dance competition was held on 1 September 2007 in London, United Kingdom with the participation of 16 countries. Viewers cast their votes by telephone and SMS text message voting on each couple's two dances – the first being ballroom or Latin with the second being freestyle, with a "national" flavour. Professional dance couples were allowed to enter the competition. Comedian Graham Norton and Claudia Winkleman presented the 2007 contest from the BBC Television Centre in London. Enrique Iglesias performed a medley of "Tired of Being Sorry" and "Do You Know? (The Ping Pong Song)" during the interval. Graham Norton
Graham William Walker (born 4 April 1963), better known by his stage name Graham Norton, is an Irish actor, author, comedian, commentator, and presenter. Well known for his work in the UK, he is a five-time BAFTA TV Award winner for his comedy chat show ''The Graham Norton Show'' (2007–present) and an eight-time award-winner overall—he received the British Academy Television Award for Best Entertainment Performance three times for ''So Graham Norton'' (2000 to 2002). Maria Eduardovna Sittel ( rus, Мария Эдуардовна Ситтель; born November 9, 1975 in Penza) is a Russian television presenter and an anchor on the Vesti program at Russia-1. She won the Russian TEFI award. Early life and education Sittel was born on November 9, 1975 in Penza, Russia. She is the daughter of Eduard Anatolyevich Sittel, who has German ancestry, and Larisa Pavlovna. Sittel studied at the Penza Medical Lyceum until 1993, when she transferred to the V. G. Swing dance is a group of Social dance, social dances that developed with the swing music, swing style of jazz music in the 1920s–1940s, with the origins of each dance predating the popular "swing era". Hundreds of styles of swing dancing were developed; those that have survived beyond that era include Lindy Hop, Balboa (dance), Balboa, Collegiate shag, Collegiate Shag, and Charleston (dance), Charleston. Today, the best-known of these dances is the Lindy Hop, which originated in Harlem in the early 1930s. Pasodoble (Spanish language, Spanish: ''double step'') is a fast-paced Spanish military march used by infantry troops. Its speed allowed troops to give 120 steps per minute (double the average of a regular unit, hence its name). This military march gave rise recently to a modern Spanish dance, a musical genre including both voice and instruments, and a genre of instrumental music often played during Bullfighting, bullfight. Both the dance and the non martial compositions are also called pasodoble. Structure All pasodobles have binary rhythm. Denise Biellmann (born 11 December 1962) is a Swiss professional figure skater. She was the European and World Champion in 1981 and won the Swiss Championships three times. 2007 Greek Forest Fires
The 2007 Greek forest fires were a series of massive forest fires that broke out in several areas across Greece throughout the summer of 2007. The most destructive and lethal infernos broke out on 23 August, expanded rapidly and raged out of control until 27 August, until they were finally put out in early September. The fires mainly affected western and southern Peloponnese as well as southern Euboea. The death toll in August alone stood at 67 people. In total 84 people lost their lives because of the fires, including several fire fighters. Some of these firestorms are believed to be the result of arson while others were merely the result of negligence. Hot temperatures, including three consecutive heat waves of over 40 °C (105 °F), and severe drought rendered the 2007 summer unprecedented in modern Greek history.
