''European Journey'' is the fifth live release by progressive metal band Threshold. The double album was recorded at various venues across Europe during their 2014 tour. It entered the UK rock chart at no. 22 on 20 November 2015. Threshold keyboard player Richard West commented on the album: "We had a fantastic tour playing so many fan favorites going back to '97 with 'Part Of The Chaos' through 'Mission Profile', 'Pilot In The Sky Of Dreams' to the present day with 'The Box'. We recorded some shows along the way and it's turned into this really powerful double album". Threshold (band)
Threshold are an English progressive metal band formed in Surrey in the late 1980s. History 1988–1992 Threshold began their career in 1988, initially playing covers of metal groups like Ratt and Testament. As they continued playing together, they began to write their own songs, and eventually stopped playing covers altogether. Early recordings were released locally on cassette under the band name "If Not, Why?". They played their first gig at The Compasses in Egham, Surrey, with Jon Jeary on vocals and Ian Bennett on bass. In 1992, they signed their first record deal, and after adding vocalist Damian Wilson to the group alongside guitarists Karl Groom and Nick Midson, bassist Jon Jeary and drummer Tony Grinham, produced their first commercial recording, "Intervention," which was released on a Dutch progressive rock compilation album. Progressive Metal
Progressive metal (sometimes shortened to prog metal) is a broad :Fusion music genres, fusion music genre melding heavy metal music, heavy metal and progressive rock, combining the loud "aggression" and amplified electric guitar, guitar-driven sound of the former with the more experimental, cerebral or "pseudo-classical" compositions of the latter. One of these experimental examples introduced to modern metal was djent. Nuclear Blast
Nuclear Blast is a record label and mail order record distributor with subsidiaries in Germany, the United States and Brazil. The label was founded in 1987 by Markus Staiger in Germany. Originally releasing hardcore punk records, the label moved on to releasing albums by thrash metal, melodic death metal, grindcore, industrial metal, power metal and black metal bands, as well as tribute albums. It also distributes and promotes two post-hardcore/metalcore labels: SharpTone Records, focused on the American scene, and Arising Empire, focused more on European bands. ''Legends of the Shires'' is the eleventh studio album by progressive metal band Threshold, released on September 8, 2017. It is the first album to feature vocalist Glynn Morgan since the band's second album '' Psychedelicatessen'' in 1994; Morgan returned to Threshold following Damian Wilson's departure in 2017. The album is a concept album about "a nation trying to find itself" according to lyricist Richard West. However, they admit that their intent in many cases was to have 2 different parallel stories or interpretations—for example, in addition to the nation-based theme, that the songs be just as applicable on a personal level. Damian Wilson
Damian Wilson (born 11 October 1969) is an English singer-songwriter and musician. Wilson works in the progressive metal genre and was the lead singer of Headspace and Threshold. He sang and toured with bands and projects for Star One, Ayreon, Landmarq, Praying Mantis and with Rick Wakeman's English Rock Ensemble. As a solo artist he has released 5 solo albums, a DVD and a retrospective compilation album. 1990 – 2000 Damian began recording music in 1991 with the band Landmarq. He featured on their debut album, ''Solitary Witness'' which was released in 1992, followed by a second album, ''Infinity Parade'' (1993) and ''The Vision Pit'' (1995). Karl Groom
Karl Groom is a British guitarist and record producer. He is best known as a founding and the only constant member of the progressive metal band Threshold. His production and mixing credits are mainly with progressive and power metal bands. Musician Groom is the guitarist of Threshold, having formed the band in 1988. He has since produced and released eleven studio albums and is currently signed to Nuclear Blast. In addition, a live DVD entitled '' Critical Energy'' was released in 2004 whilst on the Inside Out Music label. Groom also played guitar in Mercy Train, Shadowland, and Strangers on a Train, all during the mid-1990s. In 2017, he played all acoustic guitars on Galahad's ''Quiet Storms'' album. Producer Groom works from his own Thin Ice Studios since 1990. The recording facility was originally located in Berkshire, but moved to Surrey in 1995. Johanne James
Johanne James is the drummer for British progressive metal band Threshold. He joined the band officially, replacing Mark Heaney, in 2001, to record the album ''Hypothetical'', which occurred after having toured with the band in support of the albums ''Extinct Instinct'' and '' Clone''. He also fronts the three-piece band Kyrbgrinder, in which he is the vocalist and the drummer. He is also the drummer for Symphony of Pain. He has been awarded Best Drummer by the Classic Rock Society five times, in 2004, 2006, 2007, 2008 and 2014.
