European Foundation Centre
The European Foundation Centre (EFC) was an international membership association of foundations and corporate funders, based in Philanthropy House, Brussels, Belgium. The organisation was created in 1989 by seven non-profit organisations, in order to support the philanthropic sector in Europe. The organisation ceased to exist in 2022 as the result of a merger with the Donors and Foundations Network in Europe, to form the new Philanthropy Europe Association (Philea). European Commission
The European Commission (EC) is the executive of the European Union (EU). It operates as a cabinet government, with 27 members of the Commission (informally known as "Commissioners") headed by a President. It includes an administrative body of about 32,000 European civil servants. The Commission is divided into departments known as Directorates-General (DGs) that can be likened to departments or ministries each headed by a Director-General who is responsible to a Commissioner. There is one member per member state, but members are bound by their oath of office to represent the general interest of the EU as a whole rather than their home state. European Foundation Project
As a European Commission proposal, the European Foundation Statute was a legal framework for non-profit foundations, which would have been additional and complementary to existing national legislations in constituent States. The European Foundation would have been legally recognised in all European Union member states, and would have operated under the same set of conditions across the European Union. Purpose Proponents of a European Foundation statute pointed out that foundations and their funders are increasingly working across borders, but that a number of legal and administrative barriers are hampering new foundation initiatives in Europe and the current work of existing foundations.
