The European Centre for Allergy Research Foundation (ECARF) is a non-profit foundation in the area of allergology. Foundation structure The foundation ECARF is member of the . It was founded by Jørgen Philip-Sørensen in 2003 and later became a foundation with legal capacity. A board with four members manages the foundation. The chairperson of the foundation is Torsten Zuberbier. Purpose The foundation's self-described goals are to increase knowledge about allergies, to carry out allergy research and to increase awareness of allergies in Europe. Allergies, also known as allergic diseases, refer a number of conditions caused by the hypersensitivity of the immune system to typically harmless substances in the environment. Torsten Zuberbier
Torsten Zuberbier (born 28 February 1962) is a German dermatologist and allergologist. Scientific career After completing his Abitur (secondary school education) in 1981, Torsten Zuberbier studied medicine at Free University of Berlin from 1983 to 1990. From 1990 to 1994, he completed his specialist training in the Department of Dermatology at the Virchow Clinic in Berlin, where he also became a senior physician in 1995 and qualified as a professor in 1996 with his work on the topic of differentiation and functional relations in human mast cells. Consciousness raising (also called awareness raising) is a form of activism popularized by United States feminists in the late 1960s. ECARF Quality Seal
The ECARF Quality Seal is a seal of approval that is intended to aid in the selection of products and services suitable for use by allergic consumers. Since 2006, the non-profit European Centre for Allergy Research Foundation (ECARF) has awarded the certification to products that meet detailed quality requirements in keeping with the needs of allergy sufferers. For each specific product or service category, specific catalogues of criteria are created which are based on the most recent scientific findings and updated on a regular basis. Entire communities that adjust their offerings to the needs of allergy sufferers have also been eligible for certification since 2008. GA²LEN
GA²LEN, or Global Allergy and Asthma European Network, is a consortium of leading European research centres specialized in allergic diseases, which include asthma. Funded by the European Union under the 6th Framework Programme, GA²LEN addresses the growing public health concern of allergic diseases.
