Eurong is an island town and a locality on Fraser Island (also known as K'Gari and Gari) in the Fraser Coast Region, Queensland, Australia. In the , the locality of Eurong had a population of 47 people. Geography Fraser Island is divided into two localities, one very small one, Eurong, and very large one called Fraser Island (the locality) with Happy Valley its only town. Eurong is on the east coast of Fraser Island facing the Coral Sea about one quarter of the length of the island from its southern trip. Consequently, on the land, Eurong is completely surrounded by the locality of Fraser Island. History The name ''Eurong'' is believed to be a Kabi language word meaning ''rain forest''. The ''Fraser Coast Chronicle'' is an online newspaper serving the Fraser Coast area in Queensland, Australia. It was started as the Maryborough Chronicle, Wide Bay and Burnett Advertiser. History Charles Hardie Buzacott first published the ''Maryborough Chronicle, Wide Bay and Burnett Advertiser'' in Maryborough as a four-page tabloid, in his slab hut in Lennox Street in November 1860. It sold for sixpence and was read from Gayndah in the west and Childers in the north to Gympie in the south. In 1863, Buzacott sold his interests to William Swain Roberts and Joseph Robinson, who set out to "reflect the community's wants and opinions while boldly and distinctly enunciating our own views". Kabi Kabi, also spelt Gabi-Gabi/Gubbi Gubbi, is a language of Queensland in Australia, formerly spoken by the Kabi Kabi people of South-east Queensland. The main dialect, Kabi Kabi, is extinct, but there are still 24 people with knowledge of the Butchulla dialect (also spelt Batjala, Batyala, Badjala, and variants), a language spoken by the Butchulla people of Fraser Island. Happy Valley is a coastal town in the locality of Fraser Island in the Fraser Coast Region, Queensland, Australia. Geography Fraser Island is divided into two localities, one very small one, Eurong, and a very large one called Fraser Island (the locality) with Happy Valley being its only township. Happy Valley is located approximately halfway up the east coast of Fraser Island facing the Pacific Ocean. One will need a 4WD vehicle to drive along the beach in order to get there. History From August 1934, tourists started coming to the Fraser Island Tourist Resort, a group of huts "offering every comfort and convenience" at Happy Valley. On 7 December 2020 a bushfire, started in October by an illegal campfire, threatened the town and caused residents to evacuate their homes as it burned out of control.
