Rudolf Püngeler
Rudolf Püngeler (15 February 1857 in Burtscheid – 1 February 1927 in Aachen) was a German entomologist who specialised in Lepidoptera. He was a district court lawyer in Aachen. Püngeler described very many new species and named ten new Genus, genera of moths/ref> mainly in ''Deutsche Entomologische Zeitschrift, Iris. Dresden''. His most important work was on the Lepidoptera of Central Asia and China. His collection of Palaearctic Lepidoptera is in the Berlin Museum für Naturkunde. The Palearctic or Palaearctic is the largest of the eight biogeographic realms of the Earth. It stretches across all of Eurasia north of the foothills of the Himalayas, and North Africa. There are hundreds of described species, found in all parts of the world (with 45 in the British Isles alone), and new species are discovered on a regular basis. ''Eupithecia'' species form the bulk of the group commonly known as pugs. They are generally small with muted colours and specific identification can be difficult.
