Eunos Group Representation Constituency
Eunos Group Representation Constituency (Simplified Chinese: 友诺士集选区;Traditional Chinese: 友諾士集選區) is a defunct Group Representation Constituency (GRC) in the north-eastern region of Singapore. This GRC existed for the 1988 and 1991 general election before being absorbed into Aljunied GRC and the brand new East Coast GRC for the 1997 general election. Eunos GRC was won narrowly by the People's Action Party in both the 1988 and 1991 General Elections. Eunos GRC was formerly led by Zulkifli bin Mohammed in 1988 and Sidek bin Saniff in 1991. Simplified Chinese Character
Simplified Chinese characters are standardized Chinese characters used in mainland China, Malaysia and Singapore, as prescribed by the ''Table of General Standard Chinese Characters''. Along with traditional Chinese characters, they are one of the two standard character sets of the contemporary Chinese written language. The government of the People's Republic of China in mainland China has promoted them for use in printing since the 1950s and 1960s to encourage literacy. Tay Eng Soon
Tay Eng Soon (; 20 January 1940 – 5 August 1993) was a Singaporean politician. Education Tay was educated at the Anglo-Chinese School for his primary and secondary education. He was the top student for both schools. He obtained first class honours in Bachelor of Science from the University of Bristol, Masters and Doctor of Philosophy from the University of London. Political career Tay was a Member of Parliament for River Valley Constituency with walkovers in both 1980 and 1984 General Election. He was appointed Minister of State for Education in 1981 and Senior Minister of State for Education in 1988. Tay was part of a three-member PAP team against the Worker's Party team for Eunos GRC. Lee Siew Choh
Lee Siew Choh (; 1 November 1917 – 18 July 2002) was a Singaporean politician and physician. He was the Member of Parliament for Queenstown from 1959 to 1963 and served as the NCMP from September 1988 to August 1991. Initially a member of the People's Action Party (PAP), he became a leader of the breakaway faction of Barisan Sosialis (BS) in 1961. After the BS merged with the Workers' Party (WP) in 1988, Lee stood as a WP candidate in the 1988 election and became Singapore's first Non-constituency Member of Parliament (NCMP) due to his best performance among the opposition candidates. Francis Seow
Francis Seow, born Seow Tiang Siew ( zh, s=萧添寿, p=Xiāo Tiānshòu; 11 October 1928 – 21 January 2016), was a Singaporean lawyer who was Solicitor-General of Singapore and later the President of the Law Society of Singapore. Seow started his legal career in 1956 in the Singapore Legal Service, becoming Solicitor-General in 1969 before entering private practice in 1972. During his legal career, he was known for having both prosecuted and defended murderers such as Sunny Ang, Mimi Wong and Tan Mui Choo. After he was elected president of the Law Society of Singapore in 1986, he had a falling-out with Prime Minister Lee Kuan Yew over the Law Society's role in commenting on legislation. Charles Chong
Charles Chong You Fook ( zh, s=张有福, p=Zhāng Yǒufú; born 24 June 1953) is a Singaporean former politician who served as Deputy Speaker of the Parliament of Singapore between 2011 and 2020. He served as Acting Speaker of the Parliament of Singapore from 7 August to 11 September 2017, following the resignation of Halimah Yacob on 7 August 2017. Chew Heng Ching
Chewing or mastication is the process by which food is crushed and ground by teeth. It is the first step of digestion, and it increases the surface area of foods to allow a more efficient break down by enzymes. During the mastication process, the food is positioned by the cheek and tongue between the teeth for grinding. The muscles of mastication move the jaws to bring the teeth into intermittent contact, repeatedly occluding and opening. As chewing continues, the food is made softer and warmer, and the enzymes in saliva begin to break down carbohydrates in the food. After chewing, the food (now called a bolus) is swallowed. Pasir Ris
Pasir Ris is a planning area and residential town located in the East Region of Singapore. It is bordered by Tampines and Paya Lebar to the south, Sengkang to the southwest and Changi to the east. The planning area also shares riverine boundary with Punggol to the west, separated by the Serangoon River, as well as having a maritime boundary with the North-Eastern Islands planning area, across the Straits of Johor. Kaki Bukit, Singapore
Kaki Bukit is an industrial area located in Bedok in the East Region of Singapore. It is home to many high tech industrial companies and warehouses. There used to be a prison complex called Kaki Bukit Centre, which was converted to a prison school in 2000, however it has since moved to Tanah Merah and the Acacia Welfare Home now stands in its place. On the south of Kaki Bukit is Jalan Tenaga and Jalan Damai neighbourhoods of Bedok Reservoir Road. Redevelopments are in the pipeline for Kaki Bukit beyond 2030 when Paya Lebar Airbase located just north of the estate relocates to Changi. Eunos, Singapore
Geylang East, more commonly known as Eunos, is a subzone located in Geylang in the Central Region of Singapore. The vicinity is served by both Paya Lebar and Eunos MRT stations. "Eunos" is also the name given to a street called which spans the area. Etymology and History The settlement was originally named Kampong Melayu, a large Malay village that used to include Kampong Ubi and Kaki Bukit areas. It was later renamed Eunos in honour of its founder, . Sidek Bin Saniff
Sidek bin Saniff (born 18 April 1938) is a former Singaporean politician and activist. A member of the ruling People's Action Party, he was the Member of Parliament of Aljunied GRC for Eunos ward from 1997 to 2001. He was Parliamentary Ministry of Communications and Information and Second Parliamentary Secretary, Ministry of Culture from 1980 to 1981, Parliamentary Secretary, Ministry of Social Affairs from 1981 to 1984 and Parliamentary Secretary, Ministry of Trade and Industry from 1981 to 1988. Traditional Chinese Character
Traditional Chinese characters are one type of standard Chinese character sets of the contemporary written Chinese. The traditional characters had taken shapes since the clerical change and mostly remained in the same structure they took at the introduction of the regular script in the 2nd century.
