Eugenio Lucas Villaamil
Eugenio Lucas Villaamil, sometimes called "The Younger" (14 January 1858 – 23 January 1918) was a Spanish costumbrista painter. Many of his works were painted in the style of Francisco de Goya; and the attributions are sometimes confused. Biography He was born in Madrid. Although the circumstances surrounding his identity and legitimacy were once quite uncertain, @ MCN Biografías. it is now agreed that he was the legitimate son of the painter, Eugenio Lucas Velázquez and his wife, Francisca, the youngest sister of Jenaro Pérez Villaamil. His first art lessons were in his father's studio and his formal studies were at the "Escuela Especial de Pintura de Madrid". José Lázaro Galdiano
José Lázaro Galdiano (1862–1947) was a Spanish financier, journalist, publisher and art collector, who, by the time of his death, owned one of the largest and most significant art collections in Spain.Cook, 326 He was described in 1940 as "one of the greatest patrons of culture in nineteenth century Spain".Hilton, 319 At the time of his death, his collection numbered some 12,600 pieces, mostly from the Old Master and Romanticism, Romantic periods - he had little interest in the Modernists. Life Lázaro was born in 1862 in Beire, Navarre. He studied Law and Philosophy in Seville and Madrid before taking office in 1883 at the Bank of Spain in Barcelona. However, his talent and ability in art appreciation and journalism soon took his career in another direction. He befriended Emilia Pardo Bazán who introduced him to the leading Spanish intellectuals of the time.
