Eugenia Malinnikova (born 23 April 1974) is a mathematician, winner of the 2017 Clay Research Award which she shared with Aleksandr Logunov "in recognition of their introduction of a novel geometric combinatorial method to study doubling properties of solutions to elliptic eigenvalue problems". She competed three times in the International Mathematical Olympiad, winning three Gold medals (including two perfect scores). She is a member of the International Mathematical Olympiad Hall of Fame. She got her PhD from St. Petersburg State University in 1999, under the supervision of Viktor Petrovich Havin. Currently she works as a professor of mathematics at Stanford University after previously working at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology. In 2018 she was inducted into the Norwegian Academy of Science and Letters. She is also a member of the Royal Norwegian Society of Sciences and Letters and the Norwegian Academy of Technological Sciences The Norwegian Academy of T ...

Eugenia Malinnikova, 2008 (portioned)
''Eugenia'' is a genus of flowering plants in the myrtle family Myrtaceae. It has a worldwide, although highly uneven, distribution in tropical and subtropical regions. The bulk of the approximately 1,100 species occur in the New World tropics, especially in the northern Andes, the Caribbean, and the Atlantic Forest (coastal forests) of eastern Brazil. Other centers of diversity include New Caledonia and Madagascar. Many of the species that occur in the Old World have received a new classification into the genus ''Syzygium''. All species are woody evergreen trees and shrubs. Several are grown as ornamental plants for their attractive glossy foliage, and a few produce edible fruit that are eaten fresh or used in jams and jellies. Taxonomy The genus was named in honor of Prince Eugene of Savoy. Many species new to science have been and are in the process of being described from these regions. For example, 37 new species of ''Eugenia'' have been described from Mesoamerica in the p ...

Academic Staff Of The Norwegian University Of Science And Technology
An academy ( Attic Greek: Ἀκαδήμεια; Koine Greek Ἀκαδημία) is an institution of secondary or tertiary higher learning (and generally also research or honorary membership). The name traces back to Plato's school of philosophy, founded approximately 385 BC at Akademia, a sanctuary of Athena, the goddess of wisdom and skill, north of Athens, Greece. Etymology The word comes from the ''Academy'' in ancient Greece, which derives from the Athenian hero, '' Akademos''. Outside the city walls of Athens, the gymnasium was made famous by Plato as a center of learning. The sacred space, dedicated to the goddess of wisdom, Athena, had formerly been an olive grove, hence the expression "the groves of Academe". In these gardens, the philosopher Plato conversed with followers. Plato developed his sessions into a method of teaching philosophy and in 387 BC, established what is known today as the Old Academy. By extension, ''academia'' has come to mean the accumulatio ...

Women Mathematicians
A woman is an adult female human. Prior to adulthood, a female human is referred to as a girl (a female child or adolescent). The plural ''women'' is sometimes used in certain phrases such as "women's rights" to denote female humans regardless of age. Typically, women inherit a pair of X chromosomes, one from each parent, and are capable of pregnancy and giving birth from puberty until menopause. More generally, sex differentiation of the female fetus is governed by the lack of a present, or functioning, SRY-gene on either one of the respective sex chromosomes. Female anatomy is distinguished from male anatomy by the female reproductive system, which includes the ovaries, fallopian tubes, uterus, vagina, and vulva. A fully developed woman generally has a wider pelvis, broader hips, and larger breasts than an adult man. Women have significantly less facial and other body hair, have a higher body fat composition, and are on average shorter and less muscular than men. Througho ...

Norwegian Mathematicians
A mathematician is a scholar in the fields of mathematics. They solve and research mathematical problems which can be applied in real life or completely abstract (pure). This article covers notable mathematicans from Norway. A pioneer of modern mathematics, Niels Henrik Abel contributed greatly towards various fields of mathematics during his short life. He died in 1829, aged 26, from tuberculosis. German mathematician Felix Klein spoke of his reluctance "to part from this ideal type of researcher". In 2001, the Abel Prize was established in his honour. Other notable mathematicians include (in alphabetical order) Carl Anton Bjerknes, Vilhelm Bjerknes, Bernt Michael Holmboe, who is known for being Abel's teacher and tutor, Sophus Lie, Idun Reiten, Atle Selberg, Thoralf Skolem and Carl Størmer. Alphabetical order ''"Aa" appears under "å" as they are considered different representations of the same letter.'' See also *Archiv for Mathematik og Naturvidenskab *Bjerknes (lunar ...

Royal Norwegian Society Of Sciences And Letters
The Royal Norwegian Society of Sciences and Letters ( da, Det Kongelige Norske Videnskabers Selskab, DKNVS) is a Norwegian learned society based in Trondheim. It was founded in 1760 and is Norway's oldest scientific and scholarly institution. The society's Protector is King Harald V of Norway. Its membership consists of no more than 435 members elected for life among the country's most prominent scholars and scientists. The society’s Danish name predates both written standards for Norwegian and has remained unchanged after Norway’s independence from Denmark in 1814 and the spelling reforms of the 20th century. History DKNVS was founded in 1760 by the bishop of Nidaros Johan Ernst Gunnerus, headmaster at the Trondheim Cathedral School Gerhard Schøning and Councillor of State Peter Frederik Suhm under the name ''Det Trondhiemske Selskab'' (the Trondheim Society). From 1761 it published academic papers in a series titled ''Skrifter''. It was the northernmost learned society in th ...
