Eugene O'Donnell
Eugene Christopher O'Donnell (28 November 1913 - 16 August 1982) was a member of the Queensland Legislative Assembly. Biography O'Donnell was born in Bathurst, New South Wales, the son of Michael Patrick O'Donnell and his wife Mary (née Scanlon). He was educated at St Laurence's College in Brisbane before attending the Brisbane Teachers College. He was then posted to various schools around southern and central Queensland as a teacher and school principal. On The 10th Aug 1936 O'Donnell married Emily Conlon and together had a son and a daughter. Electoral District Of Barcoo
Barcoo was an electoral district of the Legislative Assembly in the Australian state of Queensland from 1885 to 1972. It was created in 1885, by dividing the district of Mitchell, with Barcoo taking up its western area. It was named after the Barcoo River, and covered remote rural areas in Southwest Queensland. Barcoo was mostly a safe seat for the Labor Party The death of Frank Murphy created a by-election on 5 March 1892. A shearer, Tommy Ryan (not to be confused with Premier T. J. Ryan), became the first endorsed Labor candidate in Queensland, and won the seat against opponent William Henry Campbell, the editor and proprietor of the local newspaper, The Western Champion. The seat was later held by the Premier, T. J. Ryan. Remarkably, his win in 1909 was the last time a member was elected for the seat at a general election. Queensland Legislative Assembly
The Legislative Assembly of Queensland is the sole chamber of the unicameral Parliament of Queensland established under the Constitution of Queensland. Elections are held every four years and are done by full preferential voting. The Assembly has 93 members, who have used the letters MP after their names since 2000 (previously they were styled MLAs). There is approximately the same population in each electorate; however, that has not always been the case (in particular, a malapportionment system - not, strictly speaking, a gerrymander - dubbed the ''Bjelkemander'' was in effect during the 1970s and 1980s). Elections were held in the Australian state of Queensland on 27 May 1972 to elect the 82 members of the Legislative Assembly of Queensland. The Country-Liberal Coalition won its sixth consecutive victory since it won government in 1957 and also its second victory under Joh Bjelke-Petersen. Queensland Parliament
The Parliament of Queensland is the legislature of Queensland, Australia. As provided under the Constitution of Queensland, the Parliament consists of the Monarch of Australia and the Legislative Assembly. It has been the only unicameral state legislature in the country since the upper chamber, the Legislative Council, was abolished in 1922. The Legislative Assembly sits in Parliament House in the state capital, Brisbane. All laws applicable in Queensland are authorised by the Parliament of Queensland, with the exception of specific legislation defined in the Constitution of Australia, very limited criminal law applying under the Australia Act 1986 as well as a small volume of remaining historical laws passed by the Parliament of New South Wales and the Imperial Parliament.
