Eucalyptus Orthostemon
''Eucalyptus orthostemon'', also known as diverse mallee, is a species of Mallee (habit), mallee that is Endemism, endemic to the south-west of Western Australia. It has smooth coppery and greyish bark, linear adult leaves, oval to spindle-shaped buds in groups of seven, creamy white flowers and conical to cup-shaped fruit. Description ''Eucalyptus orthostemon'' is an upright, spreading mallee that typically grows to a height of and forms a lignotuber. It has smooth coppery and greyish to silvery bark. Adult leaves are the same shade of green on both sides, linear, long and wide on a Petiole (botany), petiole long. The flower buds are arranged in leaf wikt:axil, axils in groups of five or seven a slightly flattened, unbranched Peduncle (botany), peduncle long, the individual buds on Pedicel (botany), pedicels long. He is widely recognised as the leading authority on the genus ''Eucalyptus''. Nicolle was born in Adelaide, South Australia in 1974 and developed an interest in ''Eucalyptus'' trees as a young man. After completing a Bachelor of Science at Adelaide University he went on to complete his PhD in 2008 on mallee (habit), mallee trees at Flinders University. Shortly afterwards Nicolle created the Currency Creek Arboretum, on a site in the Fleurieu and Kangaroo Island, Fleurieu region in South Australia. He is currently the director and head of research at the arboretum and has cultivated over 900 species and subspecies of ''Eucalyptus''.
