Estonian Liberal Democratic Party
The Estonian Liberal Democratic Party ( et, Eesti Liberaaldemokraatlik Partei), abbreviated to ELDP, was a social liberal political party in Estonia that existed between 1990 and 1994. The ELDP was founded on 9 March 1990, during the Estonian Soviet Socialist Republic, by the merger of the Liberal People's Party and the Free Democratic Party. The ELDP was granted observer membership of the Liberal International on 4 October 1990: the first eastern European party to be admitted to the LI. Led by Paul-Eerik Rummo, the party ran as part of the right-wing, radically pro-reform 'Fatherland' electoral alliance in the 1992 election, and won six of the bloc's 29 seats in the 101-seat Riigikogu. The party served, as with all of the Fatherland bloc, in the government of Mart Laar, with Rummo as Minister of Culture and Education and Heiki Kranich as Minister of Finance. Estonian Reform Party
The Estonian Reform Party ( et, Eesti Reformierakond) is a liberal political party in Estonia. The party has been led by Kaja Kallas since 2018. It is colloquially known as the "Squirrel Party" ( et, Oravapartei). It was founded in 1994 by Siim Kallas, then-president of the Bank of Estonia, as a split from Pro Patria National Coalition Party. As the Reform Party has participated in most of the government coalitions in Estonia since the mid-1990s, its influence has been significant, especially regarding Estonia's free market and policies of low taxation. The party has been a full member of Liberal International since 1996, having been an observer member between 1994–1996, and a full member of the Alliance of Liberals and Democrats for Europe (ALDE). Siim Kallas
Siim Kallas (; born 2 October 1948) is an Estonian politician, former Prime Minister of Estonia, and former European Commissioner. He served as the European Commissioner for Transport between 2010 and 2014. Before that he was the European Commissioner for Administrative Affairs, Audit and Anti-Fraud between 2004 and 2009. In both Barroso Commissions he was also a Vice-President. He was twice appointed the Acting Commissioner for Economic and Monetary Affairs and the Euro in Olli Rehn's stead, from 19 April 2014 to 25 May 2014 while he was on electoral campaign leave for the 2014 elections to the European Parliament and from 1 July 2014 to 16 July 2014 after he took up his seat. Mart Laar
Mart Laar (born 22 April 1960) is an Estonian politician and historian. He served as the Prime Minister of Estonia from 1992 to 1994 and from 1999 to 2002. Laar is credited with having helped bring about Estonia's Economy_of_Estonia#Restoration_of_independence,_modernisation_and_liberalisation, rapid economic development during the 1990s. He is a member of the centre-right Isamaa party.
