Estonia competed at the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia from 7 to 23 February 2014. On 24 January 2014, 25 athletes were officially named to the Estonian Olympic team. Alpine skiing According to the quota allocation released on January 20, 2014, Estonia had two athletes in qualification position. Estonian Olympic Committee
The Estonian Olympic Committee ( et, Eesti Olümpiakomitee) (EOK) is responsible for the Estonia's participation in the Olympic Games. History The Estonian Sports Federation ( et, Eesti Spordi Liit) decided to form the Estonian Olympic Committee in the First Estonian Sport Congress ( et, Eesti I Spordikongress) on 30 November 1919, one and a half years after the proclamation of the independence of Estonia, but it was officially founded on 8 December 1923. The first chairman of the committee dr. Karl Friedrich Akel, was elected on 5 May 1924. An independent Estonian team took part in the Olympic Games over the period of 1920–1936. As Estonia was invaded and occupied in 1940, and reoccupied by the Soviet Union in 1944, the Estonian Olympic athletes competed as part of the USSR delegations at the Olympic Games from 1952 until 1988. Grete Gaim (born 21 May 1993 in Elva) is an Estonian biathlete. She competed at the Biathlon World Championships 2013, and at the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, in sprint and individual. Career Grete Gaim made her international debut at the Biathlon Junior World Championship in 2010 in Torsby , where she placed 63rd in the individual and 48th in the sprint, not finishing the pursuit. In the relay, she was tenth. This was followed by the junior races of the European Championships in Otepää, where the she placed 45th in the individual, 34th in the sprint, and 42nd in the pursuit. The men's relay competition of the Sochi 2014 Olympics was held at Laura Biathlon & Ski Complex on 22 February 2014. On 15 February 2020, it was announced that because of a doping violation Evgeny Ustyugov and Russian relay team had been disqualified from the 2014 Olympics. There is no official decision by IOC yet. The men's pursuit competition of the Sochi 2014 Olympics was held at Laura Biathlon & Ski Complex on 10 February 2014. Martin Fourcade won the gold medal. Qualification Countries were assigned quotas using a combination of the Nation Cup scores of their top 3 athletes in the individual, sprint, and relay competitions at the 2012 World Championships in Ruhpolding, Germany, and the 2013 World Championships in Nové Město na Moravě, Czech Republic. The top 20 nations would be able to start four athletes in the sprint, while nations 21 through 28 could start one each. Nations below 28 could only start if any nation decided to vacate a quota spot. During the 2012–13 or 2013–14 Biathlon World Cup season the athlete must have two results at IBU Cup, Open European Championships, World Championships or World Cup in the Sprint or Individual that at a maximum 20% behind the average time of the top three athletes. Kalev Ermits
Kalev Ermits (born 19 September 1992) is an Estonian former biathlete and cross-country skier. He competed for Estonia at the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang, and the 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing. He retired from Biathlon following the 2021-2022 season. After this he ran a half-marathon and began racing in cross-country skiing and was second in the 15 km freestyle race at the Estonian National Championships. The 46th Biathlon World Championships was held in Nové Město na Moravě, Czech Republic, from 7 to 17 February 2013. There were a total of 11 competitions: sprint, pursuit, individual, mass start and relay races for both men, women and a mixed relay.
