Esther Gamlielit
Esther Gamlielit ( he, אסתר גמליאלית; 13 March 1919 – 17 September 2012) was an Israeli singer and actress who was popular in the 1930s and 1940s. Biography Gamlielit was born on 13 March 1919 in Egypt to Yemenite Jews, Yemenite-Jewish parents who were en route to Palestine. After arriving, they settled in the Neve Tzedek quarter of Tel Aviv and later moved to the Kerem HaTeimanim, Yemenite Quarter. At 16, she joined the Biblical Ballet, a dance studio mostly consisting of Yemenite Jewish women which blended Yemenite dance steps with biblical themes. She gained notoriety as a singer through Biblical Ballet, eventually appearing on the British Mandate established radio station Jerusalem Calling, Kol Yerushalayim. Gamlielit later joined Ha-Matate, a satirical theater. While with Matate, she was part of a trio with Shmuel Rodensky and Jacob Timen. Yishuv
Yishuv ( he, ישוב, literally "settlement"), Ha-Yishuv ( he, הישוב, ''the Yishuv''), or Ha-Yishuv Ha-Ivri ( he, הישוב העברי, ''the Hebrew Yishuv''), is the body of Jewish residents in the Land of Israel (corresponding to the southern part of Ottoman Syria until 1918, OETA South 1917–1920, and Mandatory Palestine 1920–1948) prior to the establishment of the State of Israel in 1948. The term came into use in the 1880s, when there were about 25,000 Jews living across the Land of Israel and continued to be used until 1948, by which time there were some 630,000 Jews there. Kiryat Tiv'on ( he, קִרְיַת טִבְעוֹן, also Qiryat Tiv'on) is a town in the Haifa District of Israel, in the hills between the Zvulun (Zebulon) and Jezreel valleys. Kiryat Tiv'on is situated southeast of Haifa, on the main road to Nazareth. Dahn Ben-Amotz
Dan Ben-Amotz ( he, דן בן אמוץ, April 13, 1924 – October 20, 1989) was an Israeli radio broadcaster, journalist, playwright, and author, as well as a former Palmach member. Despite having immigrated from Poland in 1938, he was often considered the epitome of the "Sabra", a native born Israeli Jew. Biography Moshe Tehilimzeigger (later Dan Ben-Amotz) was born in Równe (then in Poland, now in Ukraine). He was sent to the British Mandate for Palestine by his parents in 1938. His parents were murdered in the Holocaust. In Palestine he was sent to Ben Shemen Youth Village, where his counselor was Shimon Peres. He changed his name to Moshe Shimony and later to Dan Ben-Amotz, feeling the latter had the right sabra sound. Reinventing his personal history to portray himself as a true native sabra, Ben-Amotz claimed to be an orphan who had relatives in some of the older Zionist settlements. Ramat Yishai ( he, רָמַת יִשַּׁי, ''Jesse's Heights''; ar, رمات يشاي) is a town in the Northern District of Israel, located on the side of the Haifa– Nazareth road about eastern to Kiryat Tivon. Shmuel Rodensky
Shmuel Rodensky ( he, שמואל רודנסקי, 10 December 1902 – 16 July 1989) was a Russian-born Israeli actor whose stage, film, and television career in Israel and West Germany spanned six decades. He immigrated to Mandatory Palestine in 1924 and studied drama at the Eretz Israel Theatre in Tel Aviv. After performing with several theatre companies between 1928 and 1948, he joined Habima Theatre in 1949 and became one of its principal players. He was known as "the Israeli Laurence Olivier". In 1968 Rodensky traveled to Hamburg to join the German-language production of ''Fiddler on the Roof'' (titled ''Anatevka''), playing the lead role of Tevye the Dairyman. He performed this role more than 1,400 times throughout West Germany and Switzerland.
