Estes, Texas
Estes is an unincorporated community in Aransas County, in the U.S. state of Texas. According to the Handbook of Texas, its population was 50 in 2000. It is located within the Corpus Christi metropolitan area. History Estes was reported to first be settled around the 1800s. The first settlers, couple Addison and Joyce William Barber bought a plot of land on which to raise cattle. More farmers moved to the community and was named Estes Flats. A post office was established at Estes in 1909 and remained in operation until 1914. It was unknown if it had other businesses at the same time. A hurricane hit the community in 1919, causing slow growth for Estes. There was a business and several houses in the community in 1936, along with the Texas and New Orleans Railroad. Estes continued to struggle during the second half of the 20th century and had several scattered houses and 50 residents, which stayed at that number through 2000. Redfish Bay
Redfish Bay is a southwestern extension of Aransas Bay in Texas, north of Corpus Christi Bay. It separates the cities of Aransas Pass and Ingleside from Port Aransas on Mustang Island. Features Redfish Bay is found at N 27.9078 and W -97.11277. Overall, it is extremely shallow and contains several small islands, salt marshes, channels and shallow mudflats. The bridge from Aransas Pass to Port Aransas splits the bay into two sections. Ecosystem The northernmost extensive beds of seagrass in Texas, including Turtle Grass ('' Thalassia testudinum'') and Shoal Grass (''Halodule beaudettei''), are found in the bay. Aransas County Independent School District is an independent county-wide school district based in Rockport, Texas, United States. The district serves a area that covers most of Aransas County, including the city of Rockport, the town of Fulton, and the unincorporated communities of Holiday Beach and Lamar. History The first public school in Aransas County was instituted in 1884 where the Rockport city water tower once stood. In 1886 a one-room school house was built in Fulton. State Highway 35 (SH 35) is a state highway in the U.S. state of Texas, maintained by the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT).
