Esporte Clube Avenida, commonly referred to as Avenida, is a Brazilian football club based in Santa Cruz do Sul, Rio Grande do Sul. It currently plays in Campeonato Gaúcho Série A2, the second level of the Rio Grande do Sul state football league. History The club was founded on January 6, 1944. Avenida merged with Futebol Clube Santa Cruz, its rival, in the 1960s to form Associação Santa Cruz do Futebol, due to financial difficulties, but the merger was a failure, and both clubs continued being separate teams. Between 1990 and 1997, the club's football department was closed. They competed in the Campeonato Gaúcho in 2000 and in 2001. Avenida won the Campeonato Gaúcho Second Level in 2011. The Estádio Ildo Meneghetti, familiarly known as Estádio dos Eucaliptos, was a football stadium located in the neighborhood of Menino Deus, in Porto Alegre, Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil. The stadium was built in 1931 had a maximum seating capacity of 20,000 people. Estádio dos Eucaliptos was owned by Sport Club Internacional. The stadium was nicknamed after Chácara dos Eucaliptos (meaning ''Eucalyptus' Ranch''), the site of the stadium. The Campeonato Gaúcho Série A2 (Gaucho Championship Series A2) are the football tournament for the Rio Grande do Sul clubs that do not play in the Campeonato Gaúcho Série A1 in Brazil. The Copa Federação Gaúcha de Futebol, commonly known as the Copa FGF, is an annual cup competition organized by the Rio Grande do Sul state football federation for clubs that are in the first, second and third divisions of the Campeonato Gaúcho.
