Mark Anthony (writer)
Mark Anthony is an American author who lives and writes in Colorado. Career Anthony wrote a number of novels based on '' Dungeons & Dragons'' published worlds, Forgotten Realms, Dragonlance, and Ravenloft. His first such novel was '' Crypt of the Shadowking'' in The Harpers series, and he has written several short stories as well. Anthony was commissioned by TSR to write a novel about Drizzt Do'Urden called ''The Shores of Dusk'' by the time Wizards of the Coast had purchased TSR; however, Wizards declined to publish Anthony's completed novel in favor of bringing back R. A. Salvatore to write about Drizzt, starting with ''The Silent Blade'' (1998). Anthony is best known for '' The Last Rune'' series, which he developed to explore the idea that reason and wonder need not exist in conflict. Fantasy literature is literature set in an imaginary universe, often but not always without any locations, events, or people from the real world. An Orc (or Ork) is a fictional humanoid monster like a goblin. Orcs were brought into modern usage by the fantasy writings of J. R. R. Tolkien, especially ''The Lord of the Rings''. In Tolkien's works, Orcs are a brutish, aggressive, ugly, and malevolent race of monsters, contrasting with the benevolent Elves. There is a suggestion, among several somewhat contradictory origin stories, that they are a corrupted race of elves. Mythological monsters with names similar to "orc" can be found in the Old English poem ''Beowulf'', in Early Modern poetry, and in Northern European folk tales and fairy tales.
