Erysiphe Alphitoides
''Erysiphe alphitoides'' is a species of fungus which causes powdery mildew on oak trees. Discovery and taxonomy Today oak powdery mildew is one of the most common diseases in European forests but it is thought to not always have been present in these forests. The first reports of the disease were made in Paris and other regions of France, Spain, Luxembourg and the Netherlands in 1907. By 1908 the disease had spread into many other European countries, becoming an epidemic. By 1909 it had reached Russia and Turkey, followed by Brazil in 1912 and soon after was distributed around the world. The sudden outbreak of the disease puzzled mycologists as they were unsure about the origin of the pathogen. Its anamorph was easily distinguished from ''Phyllactinia guttata'' which had previously been reported to cause powdery mildew on oaks in Europe at low intensity. It did however share morphological similarities with '' Oïdium quercinum'', '' Calocladia penicillata'' and '' Microsphaer ...

Uncinula Necator
''Uncinula necator'' (syn. ''Erysiphe necator'') is a fungus that causes powdery mildew of grape. It is a common pathogen of Vitis species, including the wine grape, ''Vitis vinifera''. The fungus is believed to have originated in North America. European varieties of ''Vitis vinifera'' are more or less susceptible to this fungus. ''Uncinula necator'' infects all green tissue on the grapevine, including leaves and young berries. It can cause crop loss and poor wine quality if untreated. The sexual stage of this pathogen requires free moisture to release ascospores from its cleistothecia in the spring. However, free moisture is not needed for secondary spread via conidia; high atmospheric humidity is sufficient. Its anamorph is called ''Oidium tuckeri''. It produces common odors such as 1-octen-3-one and (Z)- 1,5-octadien-3-one. This mildew can be treated with sulfur or fungicides; however resistance to several chemical classes such as Benomyl, the DMIs, and Strobilurins has ...

Blumeria Graminis
''Blumeria graminis'' (commonly called barley powdery mildew or corn mildew) is a fungus that causes powdery mildew on grasses, including cereals. It is the only species in the genus ''Blumeria''. It has also been called ''Erysiphe graminis'' and (by its anamorph) ''Oidium monilioides'' or ''Oidium tritici''. Systematics Previously ''B. graminis'' was included within the genus ''Erysiphe'', but molecular studies have placed it into a clade of its own. Thus since 1975, the species ''graminis'' was moved into the new taxa ''Blumeria'' of which it is the only species. ''Blumeria'' differs from ''Erysiphe'' in its digitate haustoria and in details of the conidial wall. As well ''Blumeria'' is considered to be phylogenetically distinct from ''Erisiphe'' as it is a plant pathogen that hosts solely on the true grasses of ''Poaceae. '' Eight special forms or ''formae speciales'' (ff.spp.) of ''B. graminis'' have been distinguished, each of which is parasitic on a particular genus of gras ...

Erysiphe Syringae
Powdery mildew of lilac, or ''Erysiphe syringae'' (formerly ''Microsphaera syringae'') is a fungal pathogen of lilacs. Importance The host of the fungal pathogen, ''Syringa vulgaris'' or the common lilac, is an ancient plant with significance in horticultural activities and wild roots in eastern Europe. Its Latin epithet, vulgaris, translates into ‘common’ in English, and was popularized by the pioneer taxonomist Carl von Linné. One of the first dutiful observations of the pathogen, ''E. syringae'', was made in a journal of the German Botanical Society, Berichte der Deutschen Botanische Gesellschaft, where it was observed as a powdery mildew pathogen unique to lilacs referencing the physical characteristics of its ascocarp appendages. The pathogen contributes to a deathly and diseased look. Common lilac is known for its spring flowers, which can be altered due to decay of flowering stems after intense infection. Symptoms Powdery mildew of lilac leaves an opaque-whi ...

Erysiphe Polygoni
''Erysiphe betae'' is a plant pathogen. It is a form of powdery mildew that can affect crops of sugar beet, when it can cause up to a 30% yield loss.Heffer, V., M. L. Powelson, K. B. Johnson, and N. Shishkoff. "Identification of Powdery Mildew Fungi anno 2006." Identification of Powdery Mildew Fungi. APS, 2006. Web. 14 Nov. 2016. The fungus occurs worldwide in all regions where sugar beet is grown and it also infects other edible crops, e.g. beetroot The beetroot is the taproot portion of a beet plant, usually known in North America as beets while the vegetable is referred to as beetroot in British English, and also known as the table beet, garden beet, red beet, dinner beet or golden beet .... Identification This pathogen is a strict obligated parasite, and therefore can only be identified when ''in planta''. Often to properly identify this pathogen, some form of microscopic analysis is needed when it is only found on one type of plant. This can be done through isolation an ...
