It is located approximately north as the crow flies of Center City, Philadelphia and approximately west of the city limits of New York City. History It is named after Colonel Arthur Erwin (also "Irwin"), who was a leader in the Bucks County Militia. A concise biography of him has been created by the DAR Chapter bearing his name. Colonel Erwin is said to have supplied many of the boats which were used by George Washington and the Continental Army to cross the Delaware en route to the Battle of Trenton on the morning of December 26, 1776. Bridgeton Township, Bucks County, Pennsylvania
Bridgeton Township is a township in Bucks County, Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 1,277 at the 2010 census. The township was originally a part of adjacent Nockamixon Township, but a division was arranged and signed on May 24, 1890. This accord split an area of Nockamixon which ran west from the banks of the Delaware River to approximately one third the breadth of the original township. This smaller area was named "Bridgeton", as it was the site of Upper Black Eddy-Milford Bridge covered wooden truss bridge built in 1842, which connected the towns of Upper Black Eddy and Milford, New Jersey. The original covered bridge was replaced by a truss bridge in 1933. The township originally contained several tiny hamlets, such as the aforementioned Upper Black Eddy, Narrowsville, and Rupletown. Riverside Farm, also known as Evermay-on-the-Delaware, is an historic, American hotel that is located near Erwinna, Tinicum Township, Bucks County, Pennsylvania. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1988. History and architectural features The house is a three-and-one-half-story, six-bay, frame, vernacular dwelling with Greek Revival and Italianate influences. The oldest section of the main house was built during the late eighteenth century as a two-story, three-bay frame structure. Additions to the house occurred were made roughly between 1870 and 1883, when this structure took its present form. A stairwell addition was built in 1982. The front facade features a one-story, flat roofed porch. Also located on the property are a contributing tenant house, a carriage house, a shed, and a ice house. Erwinna Covered Bridge
The Erwinna Covered Bridge is a wooden covered bridge that spans Swamp Creek in Erwinna, Pennsylvania, United States. The bridge was constructed using a lattice-type design. The National Register of Historic Places lists the date built as 1871, while county records say 1832. The Erwinna Covered Bridge is Bucks County's shortest covered bridge, at only long and wide. The bridge's WGCB Number is 39-09-04. During the winter the bridge has been decorated by the Church Of Tinicum on Geigel Hill Road, with lighted pineroping and wreaths at each side of the bridge. In September 2012 a 13' box truck took out the infrastructure of the bridge, causing PennDOT to estimate the bridge will be closed for 4–6 months. It was repaired just 3 months after the accident. In the early morning hours of Sunday, May 12, 2013, vandals sprayed graffiti on all of the bridge's decorative doors and the concrete around the bridge.
