Ervin Duggan
Ervin S. Duggan is a retired American media businessman who has served in several management positions, most notably as president of PBS. Originally from South Carolina and a graduate of Davidson College, Duggan was appointed as a member of the Federal Communications Commission by President George H. W. Bush in 1990, possibly as a compromise candidate with more evangelical voters. Duggan became president of PBS in December 1993. He served in that position until his resignation in 1999. As president, Duggan sought to revitalize and strengthen PBS' fundraising capacity. Duggan also oversaw the production of several News and Documentary Emmy Awards winning programs like the Living Edens. The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) is an independent agency of the United States federal government that regulates communications by radio, television, wire, satellite, and cable across the United States. The FCC maintains jurisdiction over the areas of broadband access, fair competition, radio frequency use, media responsibility, public safety, and homeland security. Davidson College is a private liberal arts college in Davidson, North Carolina. It was established in 1837 by the Concord Presbytery and named after Revolutionary War general William Lee Davidson, who was killed at the nearby Battle of Cowan’s Ford. Palm Beach is an incorporated town in Palm Beach County, Florida. Located on a barrier island in east-central Palm Beach County, the town is separated from several nearby cities including West Palm Beach and Lake Worth Beach by the Intracoastal Waterway to its west, though Palm Beach borders a small section of the latter and South Palm Beach at its southern boundaries.
