Ernest Symons
Ernest Vize Symons CB (19 June 1913 – 5 November 1990) was a British Civil Servant who became Director General of the Board of Inland Revenue. He was educated at the Stationers' Company's School and University College London (UCL), serving on the UCL Council in 1975 and becoming a fellow of UCL in 1979. He became an Assistant Inspector of Taxes in 1934. He was a Deputy Chief Inspector of Taxes, 1964-1973, Chief Inspector of Taxes until 1975 then Director General until his retirement in 1977. In 1975, he was made a Companion of the Order of the Bath. He was Honorary Treasurer of the National Association for the Care of Offenders in 1979. From 1978, he was on the council of the London Welsh Trust (Vice-Chairman, 1981-1985). He was Honorary Treasurer of the Honourable Society of Cymmrodorion from 1980. Order Of The Bath
The Most Honourable Order of the Bath is a British order of chivalry founded by George I of Great Britain, George I on 18 May 1725. The name derives from the elaborate medieval ceremony for appointing a knight, which involved Bathing#Medieval and early-modern Europe, bathing (as a symbol of purification) as one of its elements. The knights so created were known as "Knights of the Bath". George I "erected the Knights of the Bath into a regular Order (honour), Military Order". He did not (as is commonly believed) revive the Order of the Bath, since it had never previously existed as an Order, in the sense of a body of knights who were governed by a set of Statute, statutes and whose numbers were replenished when vacancies occurred. Inland Revenue
The Inland Revenue was, until April 2005, a department of the British Government responsible for the collection of direct taxation, including income tax, national insurance contributions, capital gains tax, inheritance tax, corporation tax, petroleum revenue tax and stamp duty. More recently, the Inland Revenue also administered the Tax Credits schemes, whereby monies, such as Working Tax Credit (WTC) and Child Tax Credit (CTC), are paid by the Government into a recipient's bank account or as part of their wages. The Inland Revenue was also responsible for the payment of child benefit. The Inland Revenue was merged with HM Customs and Excise to form HM Revenue and Customs which came into existence on 18 April 2005. Stationers' Company's School
The Stationers' Company's School was a former boys' grammar school, then a comprehensive school in Hornsey, north London. History The school started as the Stationers' Company's Foundation School. The Master from 1858 to 1882 was Alexander Kennedy Isbister. In 1861 it was established at Bolt Court near Fleet Street. In 1891 it moved to Mayfield Road in Hornsey, northeast from Crouch End. Grammar school The speech night was sometimes held at the Hornsey Town Hall and early on at the Stationers' Hall. The analogous girls' school was Hornsey High School, which became Hornsey Secondary School for Girls. In 1933 the school was extended and a new assembly hall, gymnasium, dining hall and workshops were accommodated in a new brick extension on Mayfield Road. The London Welsh Centre ( cy, Canolfan Cymry Llundain) (founded as the Young Wales Association in 1920) is a community and arts centre on Gray's Inn Road, in the London Borough of Camden.
