Ernest Perera
Ernest Edward Boniface Perera (29 November 1932 – 16 August 2013) was the 23rd Inspector General of the Sri Lanka Police, serving between 1988 and 1993. Ernest Edward Boniface Perera was born on 29 November 1932 in Dalugama, a suburb of Colombo, the son of John Henry Perera and Agnes. He went to school at St. Benedict's College, Colombo and later Saint Joseph's College, Colombo, graduating with a Bachelor of Economics (BEc Hons) from the University of Peradeniya in 1956. Perera then joined the Ceylon Police on 5 January 1957 as a probationary Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP). His first appointment, following training, was the ASP in charge of the Galle District in 1958. In 1970, he was appointed as the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) of the Nuwara Eliya division and the following year, was placed in charge of the Matara District. Cyril Herath
Deshamanya L. D. Cyril Herath was a Sri Lankan Inspector-General of Police and Permanent Secretary to the Ministry of Defence. Education He was educated at St. John's College, Nugegoda and at the Royal College, Colombo and graduated from the University of Ceylon, Peradeniya with a BA in Economics, History and Philosophy, where he gained university colours in Athletics. Police career Thereafter he joined the Ceylon Police Force as a probationary Assistant Superintendent of Police in 1957 and was promoted to Superintendent of Police (SP) in 1969. Herath was serving as SP Anuradhapura, when he was appointed Director of the Intelligence Services Division (ISD). The Police ISD was tasked with revamping intelligence gathering and internal security work following the 1971 JVP Insurrection. Nuwara Eliya ( si, නුවර එළිය ; ta, நுவரெலியா) is a city in the hill country of the Central Province, Sri Lanka. Its name means "city on the plain (table land)" or "city of light". Kanatte Cemetery
Kanatte Cemetery, also known locally as Borella Cemetery, is Colombo's main burial ground and crematorium. It is located at the intersection of Elvitigala Mawatha (Narahenpita Road), Bauddhaloka Mawatha (Bullers Road) and D. S. Senanayake Mawatha (Baseline Road). The cemetery is owned and operated by the Colombo Municipal Council and contains a Commonwealth War Graves Plot with a number of additional war graves dispersed around the site. The war graves include those of a German soldier, a German merchant seaman, a German interned civilian and an Austrian nursing sister. There are over 60 World War I Commonwealth servicemen and nearly 300 World War II Commonwealth servicemen buried here. Eelam War II
Eelam War II is the name given to the second phase of armed conflict between Sri Lankan military and the separatist Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam. The war started after the failure of peace talks between the Premadasa government and the LTTE. This phase of the war was initiated by the LTTE who massacred almost 600 Sinhalese and Muslim police personnel after they were ordered by the Premadasa government to surrender to the LTTE. 1990 Massacre Of Sri Lankan Police Officers
A mass murder of Sri Lankan Police officers took place on 11 June 1990. Members of the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE), a militant organization, are alleged to have killed over 600 unarmed Sri Lanka Police officers in Eastern Province, Sri Lanka.
