Ernest Geoffrey Parsons
Ernest Geoffrey Parsons Commander of The Royal Victorian Order, CVO CBE (13 May 1901 – 26 August 1991) was a British estate manager who became one of the Commissioners of the Crown Estates for Queen Elizabeth II. He was made a Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE), and a Commander of the Royal Victorian Order (CVO) for his services. Parsons was born in Bristol as the eldest son of Ernest Parsons, a paint manufacturer (Black Friar Paints), and Ellen Mary Hill. His younger brother Richard Martyn Parsons , Dick Parsons was a championship rifle marksman with the British Army, and his cousin Patrick Seager Hill was a clothing manufacturer, and a pioneer and developer of fire protective clothing. He was educated at Clifton College, then later at Cambridge University, where he studied estate management, and became a farmer in the Salisbury, Wiltshire area. Great Wishford
Great Wishford is a village and civil parish in the Wylye Valley in Wiltshire, England, about north of Wilton and northwest of Salisbury. The village lies west of a bend in the River Wylye and has a triangular street layout comprising South Street, West Street and Station Road. History To the west of the village lies the Iron Age settlement and possible hillfort of Ebsbury. The village pre-dates the Norman conquest of 1066, but was only a hamlet at this time. The name has evolved over the years, with recorded names including Wicheford (meaning a ford where wych-elms grow), Witford, Willesford Magna (mid-16th century) and Wishford Magna (early 17th century). Set into the wall of the church is a series of nine engraved "bread stones" that record the price of bread from 1800 (during the Napoleon blockade) until 2000. Crown Estates
The Crown Estate is a collection of lands and holdings in the United Kingdom belonging to the British monarch as a corporation sole, making it "the sovereign's public estate", which is neither government property nor part of the monarch's private estate. The sovereign is not involved with the management or administration of the estate, and exercises only very limited control of its affairs. Instead, the estate's extensive portfolio is overseen by a semi-independent, incorporated public body headed by the Crown Estate Commissioners, who exercise "the powers of ownership" of the estate, although they are not "owners in their own right".
