Ernest Frederick Armstrong
Ernest Frederick Armstrong (July 14, 1878 – March 14, 1948) was a Canadian politician, soldier and dental surgeon. He was elected to the House of Commons of Canada in the 1925 election as a Member of the Conservative Party of Canada representing the riding of Timiskaming South. He was defeated in the 1926 election. Nipissing (electoral District)
Nipissing was a federal electoral district that was represented in the House of Commons of Canada from 1896 to 2004. It was located in the northeastern part of Ontario, Canada. When it was first created, the riding took in the eastern half of Northeastern Ontario, including the towns of North Bay and Sudbury. Before 1892, this region was part of the electoral district of Renfrew North. It initially consisted of the temporary judicial district of Nipissing, and the townships of Head, Clara and Maria in the county of Renfrew, and a part of the district of Algoma. 1926 Canadian Federal Election
The 1926 Canadian federal election was held on September 14, 1926, to elect members of the House of Commons of Canada of the 16th Parliament of Canada. The election was called after an event known as the King–Byng affair. In the 1925 federal election, Prime Minister William Lyon Mackenzie King's Liberal Party of Canada had won fewer seats in the House of Commons of Canada than the Conservatives of Arthur Meighen. King, however, was determined to continue to govern with the support of the Progressive Party. The combined Liberal and Progressive caucuses gave Mackenzie King a plurality of seats in the House of Commons, and the ability to form a minority government. The agreement collapsed, however, after a scandal, and King approached the governor-general of Canada, Baron Byng of Vimy, to seek dissolution of the Parliament. 4th Canadian Division
The 4th Canadian Division is a formation of the Canadian Army. The division was first created as a formation of the Canadian Corps during the First World War. During the Second World War the division was reactivated as the 4th Canadian Infantry Division in 1941 and then converted to armour and redesignated as the 4th Canadian (Armoured) Division. Beginning in 1916 the division adopted a distinctive green-coloured formation patch as its insignia. In 2013 it was announced that Land Force Central Area would be redesignated 4th Canadian Division. The 159th (1st Algonquins) Battalion, CEF was a unit in the Canadian Expeditionary Force during the First World War. Based in Haileybury, Ontario, the unit began recruiting in late 1915 in the districts of Nipissing and Sudbury. After sailing to England in November 1916, the battalion was absorbed into the 8th Reserve Battalion on January 20, 1917.
