Ern Baxter
William John Ernest (Ern) Baxter (1914–1993) was a Canadian Pentecostal evangelist. Early life Born in Saskatchewan, Canada, he was baptised into a Presbyterian family. His mother was involved with a holiness church and following his father’s conversion they went into classical Pentecostalism. Their city was visited by a Scandinavian itinerant minister with a "signs and wonders" approach to Christianity. While in the Baxter’s home city, he taught on the baptism in the Holy Spirit. Ern Baxter’s mother was the first in those meetings to receive the "baptism of power." Baxter recalled seeing his father help her into the house drunk in the Spirit. Later in his teenage years, Baxter went through a period where he lost his faith in reaction to the legalism of religion and became seriously ill from pneumonia. Ernest Merrett Jenkins (4 October 1879 – 21 December 1927) was an Australian rules footballer who played for the Fitzroy Football Club, coach of the Richmond Football Club and an umpire in the Victorian Football League (VFL). Jenkins was uncle of Fitzroy player Horrie Dawson. Playing career Jenkins played for the Fitzroy Football Club in the Victorian Football League (VFL) between 1897 and 1908 and again in 1910. The Ern Malley hoax, also called the Ern Malley affair, is Australia's most famous literary hoax. Its name derives from Ernest Lalor "Ern" Malley, a fictitious poet whose biography and body of work were created in one day in 1943 by conservative writers James McAuley and Harold Stewart in order to hoax the Angry Penguins, a modernist art and literary movement centred around a journal of the same name, co-edited by poet Max Harris and art patron John Reed, of Heide, Melbourne. Imitating the modernist poetry they despised, the hoaxers deliberately created what they thought was bad verse and mailed sixteen poems to Harris under the guise of Ethel, Ern Malley's surviving sister. Harris and other members of the Heide Circle fell for the hoax, and, enraptured by the poetry, devoted the next issue of ''Angry Penguins'' to Malley, hailing him as a genius. Ernest Benjamin 'Tich' Utting (31 October 1897 – 21 November 1948) was an Australian rules footballer who played for the Collingwood Football Club and Hawthorn Football Club in the Victorian Football League (VFL). Ernest John McIntyre (19 April 1921 – 10 April 2003) was an Australian rules footballer who played for St Kilda and Collingwood in the Victorian Football League (VFL) during the 1940s. He was born at Albert Park, Victoria, a suburb of Melbourne, in 1921. McIntyre, a ruckman, began his football career at Sandringham in 1939 before crossing to the VFL where he joined St Kilda. A dentist by profession, he played his football as an amateur and didn't appear at all for St Kilda in 1942 due to Navy commitments. He represented Victoria in an interstate match against South Australia at Adelaide in 1945.
