Erie was a federal electoral district represented in the House of Commons of Canada from 1979 to 1997. It was located in the province of Ontario. This riding was created in 1976 from parts of Lincoln and Welland ridings. It initially consisted of the Townships of Wainfleet and West Lincoln, the City of Port Colborne and the Towns of Fort Erie and Pelham. In 1987, it was redefined to include the part of the City of Welland lying south of a line drawn from west to east along the Welland River, east along Broadway Avenue, north along Regional Road No. 68, east along Ontario Road, and east in a straight line to Ridge Road. John David Maloney
John David Maloney (born January 5, 1945) is a Canadian politician. He was a member of the House of Commons of Canada 1993 to 2008, and represented the riding of Welland and its antecedents for the Liberal Party, and subsequently served as mayor of Port Colborne from 2014 to 2018. Maloney has a Bachelor of Arts degree and a Diploma in Criminology from the University of Toronto, as well as a law degree from Osgoode Hall. He practiced law before entering political life. Maloney worked for the firm of Smith, Shaver, Selzer & McLuskie from 1972 to 1974, operated a private practice in Port Colborne from 1974 to 1976, and has been a partner in Maloney and Maloney from 1976 to the present. 2007 Ontario General Election
The 2007 Ontario general election was held on October 10, 2007, to elect members ( MPPs) of the 39th Legislative Assembly of the Province of Ontario, Canada. The Liberals under Premier Dalton McGuinty won the election with a majority government, winning 71 out of a possible 107 seats with 42.2% of the popular vote. The election saw the third-lowest voter turnout in Ontario provincial elections, setting a then record for the lowest voter turnout with 52.8% of people who were eligible voted. This broke the previous record of 54.7% in the 1923 election, but would end up being surpassed in the 2011 and 2022 elections.
